I think you are not quite done yet, it needs a paint job.

First use some rust neutralizer to stop the rust, then use POR on all of the untreated areas and wire wheel the loose paint off. Some DA sander action and maybe a little bondo here and there, some primer and maybe some Imron paint to finish it all off, you could put some flames on it.

Just saying.

Good job in getting it all running again.

Awesome!

I need to find some time to try all this out on the Lawn Boy! I've been doing without a push mower for two seasons now!

so it runs for a minute then dies? might wanna check the muffler, mine ran for 2 then died and if i let it sit for a while and try to start it, it'd run for another 2 min. muffler was clogged full of carbon deposits

Default Re: Lawnmower motor for generator
The theory behind the easier start is that the "bowl" which is at the top of the tank needs to have fuel in it at the correct level before the engine will start. Usually the running engine pulses the diaphragm and part of the diaphragm is the fuel pump with tiny rubber valves cut into it. By filling the tank to the brim you completely fill the bowl and the fresh fuel starts to soften and release the hardened dried out and usually stuck valves. So by the time the motor smoothes out, the correct fuel level is in the bowl and being maintained by the now freed-up valves.
I learnt this trick back in the '60's when my weekly pocket money of $2.50 depended on getting these reluctant machines to work.
Once figured out, never forgotten.
Always amusing though when neighbors had spent time cursing their machines and being unable to start them to casually wander over and after they had gone inside for a refreshment, fill the tank and have it started before they came back outside.
