How did this pass quality control?

Got this out of a 4-pack of screwdrivers (two slotted, two Phillips) that was given to me. This one seems to be missing something. It's not broken, it's just missing. It's even coated at the end.

I'm not sure if I should bring it back for an exchange or just keep it as a novelty.

Anyone else ever receive a totally messed up or malformed tool?

Look at the end jammed into the handle. Does it have a head of some sort on it?

Local mini-museum has a bunch of old tools, and to go along with it, a relatively new, still-in-the-shrinkwrap pair of Stanley screwdrivers. Ostensibly a set, standard and phillips. One of the pair had the shaft pressed into the handle backwards- all you could see is a straight, round shank that'd had two "wings" pressed in so it'd bite better into the handle.

Keep it as a novelty.

After reading your post, I took a look inside the handle and, sure enough, there's the tip! Yeah, I'm keeping this one. I doubt I'll see this again.

Yes, embarrassingly enough.

I'm sure this kind of thing happens on any production line, but they're normally caught before they get packaged and shipped.

Would be sweet to have a whole set of them. Different sized handles and shanks. Put them on a rack as a 'set' and ask someone to grab you a screwdriver. lmao

One type of quality control, yes. Specifically it is called acceptance sampling.

There are different types of quality control of which acceptance sampling is one. Other products (pacemakers for example) are each individually tested.

Tool is definitely the right word to describe the person who assembled this, assuming it was human error.

Just a new OSHA requirement...they have discovered that if the tip is assembled into the handle thus it can't scratch anyone. They'll all be like this once old stock is out of the store.
