Im not talking everyday put food in the mouth tools, Im talking the assuming we had any local friends who gave a rats *** about tools and were to come over to our home how would your vintage collection be displayed. Here is a small peak at one of my cabinets.

I try to separate by use or type of tool, this is mostly wood.

I have automotive cabinets as well. Those are my primary interests.

I can post better pics and I hope this is a good thread to start with lots of pictures.

Ive used and still will use nearly every tool I have if/when the need arises.

When Im done it gets cleaned, oiled and put back in the cabinet.

I am still looking for the silver bullet. I tend to go more for storage vs display but sometimes you can get both. Tool boards are nice for that. This is my Spa Saver Display and in the background is an old SK tool board.IMG_20170904_183610359_HDR.jpg

I'm a bit envious of that Spa-Saver display, but I'm glad that I'm not the one trying to source all the correct Metric wrenches!
I'm making some good progress on my wrench board. The Flex Combo wrenches are proving to be a pain to find at the flea. Seeing a handful of other brands, but not SK.

Does your Spa Saver have places to attach something on top? I believe my recent wrench board / rotamat belongs on top of a spa display.............

For collections I'm actively trying to fill, it helps me to have them hanging on my pegboard just so I have a visual reminder of what I'm still missing. I'd like to eventually find some of the old factory tool boards for more longer term wrench etc display and I try to find period correct tool boxes for storage of socket sets etc. I have a fellow Plomb collector friend who even has taken his WF set and displayed it in multiple shadow boxes. This topic does come up occasionally here and there are lots of semi-recent threads with great ideas from some pretty creative folks.

I don't display tools, I use them.

Bill

As already mentioned in the first post the topic was not started to discuss everyday common user tools. We all have collections ( maybe not always tools ) and we all dont use those tools on a regular basis and many arent used anymore at all.

One in particular is a little Stanley clamp-on vise I attached to my junker coffee table in my storage/mini workshop room. The first time someone new visits, the little Stanley inevitably gets brought up. It's solidly mounted too, four 2" screws + the clamp. Gets a fair bit of use.

Missed the question been having issue with the app not showing me quotes but better late than never. It doesn't appear that way. Here is a top picture.IMG_20180723_202834311.jpeg

You rock, Don! :rocker:
.............................................................

Here is a shot of some of my “extra” vises down in the basement. The one I use (Wilton C1) is mounted to the workbench in my little urban 2 car garage. I built the shelving from MDF and 1x2 furring strips. Yes, it is bolted to the wall and rests on concrete under the bottom shelf.

A couple of vintage machinist chests sit here too.
And the old receiver that powers 4 speakers in the garage. Receivers are happier in a place with less dust.

No room for deep toolboxes, so I keep a lot of stuff on the walls. The Green boards are from the cheap IKEA racks.

What has always seemed to work for me is dressing up a like Richard Simmons, sticking my tool out of the hole in my shorts, and whirling it around in a counter clock wise motion while pretending I am a pony until the person of interest succumbs to this brilliant display of excellence.

If that doesn't do the trick I open the drawers in my Classic 78.

Thanks for posting your set up. That’s an interesting collection of axes and axe heads. It would make me a bit nervous to have those loose heads balanced on one screw!:)
That’s a nice vise there on your bench. FPU made in Poland, right?

Nice stuff guys. 1930, I’m jealous of your cabinet. I always wanted some nice display cases.

It started out well and got full quick. Guess I can call it the pileup method.
