How do you leave a crescent wrench?

After you are done with an adjustable wrench, where do you leave the jaws?

I always put the jaws to where the rack is flush with the edge of the wrench. Roughly 3/4" on a 12 inch wrench. My boss closes the jaw all the way. Drives me crazy, I am guaranteed to have to open it up most of the way next time.

I always like this kind of human nature stuff.

Wide open. There are no uses when it's closed. I have 6 different sizes and always pick the one that most closely fits the nut or bolt it will be used on. Adjust from there.

Leave it set how you used it... Almost always close to the same size the next time.

I absolutely cannot stand money going in all directions.

I leave my adjustable right where it is when I am done. I never thought about it.

Crescent is a tool brand not a type of tool, what you are talking about is an adjustable shifting spanner.

Everyone of mine gets closed, then put back in the toolbox.

I have a small one on my table that I was using yesterday. I just went and looked at it and sure enough it is closed to.

I carry my 8" on me and close it because the head sticks out and would catch on things.
I dont mess with the cresents that set in my truck, no point in adjusting them.
I do close my pipe wrenches all the way before putting them away. Vibration while driving opens them and makes it a PITA to put back together after the nut falls off the top jaw.

Not to get too OCD about it but, the real question is: do you have the rack facing to the left or rhs in the box?

I never really thought about it, so I looked in my tool box.
1 is mostly closed
1 is about 3/4 closed
1 is about 1/2 closed.

I'd just Google'd before reading your post to find out it meant a bog standard adjustable spanner. :D

Closed, without fail.

With regards to the 'Do people seriously worry about this?' question, the answer is quite obviously, (though worry is probably the wrong term), yes. :D It's ****** annoying when someone leaves one open unless they're in the process of using it. :D

This entire thread is screaming OCD.

I worked with a guy who lined up all of his pencils in the drawer of his desk at the end of his workday. Erasers against the front of the drawer, points (all freshly sharpened) pointing away from him, labels all facing up.
Needless to say, breaking his pencil points, turning one or more the "wrong" way, and replacing one with a different type of pencil were all frequent late night or weekend pranks. One guy in the office even glued them all to the drawer bottom over the weekend.

Oh, and here is my adjustable wrench drawer:

As you can see, I very carefully avoid caring about where the movable jaw ends up. They do alternate directions, but that is to make enough space to fit them all in, not because I have a fetish about it.
I am betting that the one with the green handle is really bugging someone here . . . .

For all you guys that close the jaws, think about this....when the metal expands and contracts with temperature changes it will throw off the calibration.

Jeez some people's kids!

all closed, idk how the habit formed as it actually makes more sense to leave them open for a few reasons.

quicker adjustment
if it locked up you have more of a chance to get your loose joose to work in

honestly ok i guess its just the two reasons that come to mind at the moment, but that would make more sense.

just the same i close them just cause i do. same with vice grips, they must have slight tension and locked closed or they are messy and cause trouble. my cordless drill i leave the direction switch in the middle so its trigger is locked, but i do that more for saftey.

im ocd, add, crs and just plain nuts. want to join in the fun?

Well.... there is symmetry - 6 to the left and 6 to the right of the two colored ones.....

The "thing" is Proto pin spanner:

The one in the back right corner with the square end and open end is a valve wrench for gas valves.

The six point box in the back left was a wrench for the tail-stock lock nut on a large lathe.
