This, I put it so the moving jaw is flush with the end, saves storage space and your are at a statistically even size for a given wrench.

Why do you and the others have to be an ******* just because someone appreciates organization? Had the guy that glued them down done that to me, he better had saved some of the glue because he would need them for his teeth. Serious. Just because something seems non important to you doesn't mean others see it the same way.

Ehh... It's okay to be an ******* but he actually glued it, meaning he damaged somebody's property. I would have just rearranged the pencils.

Not in the civilised world, calling a shifter a crescent is like calling a Subaru a sa bah rooo, it immediately identifies you as being "not from here" and most likely of below average intelligence.

wtlf?

where in the hell are you from that someone says subaru like that?

adjustable wrench.

and you misspelled civilized in your rant about being smart.... :lol_hitti

I don't know. I fact I don't even know where I last left the one adjustable wrench I own. I prefer to use the wrong sized open end wrench when rounding of bolts.

After you are done with an adjustable wrench, where do you leave the jaws?

I always put the jaws to where the rack is flush with the edge of the wrench. Roughly 3/4" on a 12 inch wrench. My boss closes the jaw all the way. Drives me crazy, I am guaranteed to have to open it up most of the way next time.

I always like this kind of human nature stuff.

How do you even think up these questions?:dunno:

Do you pull to the fixed jaw or pull to the moving jaw?

My dad always told me to pull with the moving jaw towards me. My logic was to pull with the moving jaw away from me because the higher force is put on the fixed jaw at the tip and near the base of the moving jaw. Thoughts?

Moving jaw at the front with regards the direction of rotation. Working on the assumption that you can actually fit it in to the available space that way. If not, however it'll fit the space available. Generally, on the odd occasion I use them, I only tend to use adjustable's to stop a bolt rotating whilst I undo the nut. Rarely will I actually use them for undoing the nut itself, unless I'm out and about without a suitable size of proper spanner hence have no choice.

For the (very small) portion of the group that closes the jaw after use, I have to ask; do you remove your shoes, tighten the laces, and tie them securely, after each wearing? Of course not, that would be a ridiculous waste of time....

Erm, not tightly laced but.... :D

I field strip mine after every use to remove all the metal bits created during the process of rounding bolts. After reassembly, I close the jaws all the way, then back off 1/4 turn so as not to leave tension on the jaws which can lead to jaw distortion.

If I'm using it as a hammer I also make sure to close the jaws all they way.

Seriously though, wouldn't a Dog Bone wrench remedy this conundrum. :D

Crescent is a tool brand not a type of tool, what you are talking about is an adjustable shifting spanner.

6 pages deep in tool ocd in two days...I expected more.

If I'm cleaning/organizing the toolbox, I will close them. The way they are arranged in the drawer, it actually makes a difference how well they fit. That being said, if it's been a busy, hectic day, and I didn't take the time to close the jaws, but instead just threw them back in the drawer, I will leave them like that, go home, and lose no sleep over it.

Yeah mate, maybe you can substitute it with any derogatory term, others we might use are: ******, ********, *****. Not really someone who you would associate with voluntarily, someone you tolerate under sufferance.

Not to be pedantic, but seriously? We just sent all of our convicts there, and apparently they're quite derogatory towards others these days. Seriously thought matey, no need to take things so seriously. :D

We outnumber you so we win the vote!

Aye but, we preempted that response by creating the Empire, taught every one real English and then disbanded the Empire, merely so that International, (what is now the Queen's), English would still be the Major number. :D

What's wrong with you!? How could you go home let alone sleep?

Hot wife at home. Rather play with her tools.

I guess I could have said I take the time to close the jaws one particular week every month, or if she was mad about something when I left for work in the morning.

Izzat what the Aussies, Kiwi's, Indian's and Canadian's speak? I hand't noticed much resemblance to "the queens English" Hmmm even in GB. Cockney? Irish English? :dunno:

ok, since were overthinking this....
some years ago I got an adjustable wrench(I think I was a proto) and it had an arrow in witch direction to pull it. I never knew or was taught that. now I know.

also nowadays unless i'm really in a pinch I never use an adjustable wrench on a nut or bolt. I have enough of the proper tools.
now i'll mostly use them for bending sheet metal or framerails:rocker:

Do people seriously worry about this?

LOL

I love it, that was EXACTLY what I was thinking as I was reading this thread.

I never thought about it. I put it back into my box at the last used position.

UNLESS.......It is ALL the way open, I might close it in a bit.

I said this about 100 posts ago except for the last line which i'm now adding to mine because sometimes I have only one crescent wrench and have to use the wrong one for the job and use it wide open.

that said I think I read that some of you never use a crescent wrench and some of you don't call it a crescent wrench. it's probably my go to tool in my small tool box because without my readers on I can't find the damn 9/16's or 3/4 wrench.
