I've always wondered how you attach a merkin. Velcro, staples, rivets, bolts? Are special tools required to get good adhesion? I'd imagine the implications of a loose merkin would be catastrophic...
Most often in the old days, they were held in place with rubber cement, but with the advent of Gorilla glue, that turned out to be the best adhesive, because it stayed in place, no matter how rough the movement around the edges was. Sometimes removal did cause some amount of tact and gentleness, but then, there were some men that were known to just rip them apart. In those cases, I just recommended a slower pace to prolong the life of the product. Some just don't have a gentle enough hand to do this type of delicate work. I think that is where I developed my Carpal Tunnel problems.
