HOW DO YOU STORE BIG/Jumbo WRENCHES?

I have big wrenches from 1 3/8 - 2 & 35mm-50mm. 6 pieces in each set for a total of 12. they are piled into a draw and it just frustrating to look at it an sort through when needed. Draw depth is not a problem as the draw that house them is not a skinny.

I searched ebay and amazon with key words "Big Wrench Holder" and "Jumbo Wrench Holder" with no luck.

Help

A single peg on the wall. Biggest wrench towards the wall, smallest one out.

I don't use 'em often enough that it's a problem having to take some down to get to the size I need. And they're too long to fit in my tool box.

While mine don't really "fit" in this Hansen style holder, they do "sit" it in well enough. The sizes I have here are 1, 1 1/16, 1 1/8 and 1 1/4. They are Snap-on, so they are pretty big wrenches.

I wish I can hang them outside my tool box but I fear they will not be returned as I do apologize that I failed to mention this is in an actual shop.

Make a heavy spring out of solid copper wire and store them on edge? Several threads on spring type wrench holders here.

I personally use heavy duty metal hand carry boxes for awkward heavy items that need to be some what organized but mainly have to be in one place as a set.

I throw all mine into a filing cabinet drawer. I don't use them enough to worry about organizing them...

Big pegboard attached to unfinished wall-two hooks per wrench,so that it sits horizontally in two hooks Biggest wrench on bottom, smallest on top. Biggest wrenches need bigger hooks.

Medium wrenches that live in their Wright denim roll--the roll could be hung from pegs.

Hey guys, he added this about hanging them outside of his box:

At home, I use the pegboard method too, but at work I kept them in a 3-1/2" deep drawer, laid sideways and flat, in stacks of two. Ten large heavy combos (up to 2") and two large (18" and 24") adjustable wrenches in the drawer. They're neat enough that way IMO. Depending on what kind of box you have, that may or may not work well, because it makes for a really heavy drawer, but it worked fine in my old 40" SO KRA.

I seen a youtube video where a guy wraps wire around a cylinder and slides it off. Just don't think that will hold up.

Please post the link that would be great. Maybe I will see if there is any sheet metal laying around the shop and fab something up. I am new to welding and jump on any job that requires it.

all my wrenches are organized with wire coils.

get solid core, i used some sort of steel core stuff with a thick blue nylon(i think) insulation. i am not sure what the original application for the wire is, but it works damn well for wrenches. it does not bend out of shape very easily, holds them on edge so you get full use out of the drawers, and they do not move at all from the drawers slamming shut.

i dont think you can really wear out a wire coil by pulling wrenches out of it. it would take years if you get a decent type of wire with a durable coating and heavy gauge. about as cheap is you could get when you compare to any sort of tool organization products...

i also used a tapered alignment bar to make the coils, so they taper down to the smaller wrench sizes. i have never even considered buying wrench organizers since making them. i say give it a try, if you dont like it, its just wire.

Adhere super magnets to the bottom of the rear area of each drawer. The area of the drawer that doesn't slide out when using each drawer. Then, open each drawer beneath, stick a wrench on the magnet, an d proceed with the next one. Out of sight but always available.

If it's the cheaper brand wrenches, they are usually short and have square edges so they sit tightly on edge pushed up to one side of the drawer. The proto's I have are longer and have round edges, so they don't stack neatly and just get thrown into the drawer.

You can use a Rod that goes through 2 Eyes, has an Eye on one end and a hole in the Rod on the other for a Padlock.

You can always lock them outside of the box with a Cable and hang them from Neodymium Magnets.

Crammed in a drawer -- one for metric, one for SAE works for me. It's not like I'm losing time hunting individual wrenches down. They're huge and easy to spot.

If I had a shop at home (and needed giant wrenches in this imaginary shop), they'd definitely be on pegboard. I reckon most of the big/awkward stuff would be, too.

I thought I’d revive this thread.

Here at work, we have a LOT of large
wrenches and they’re all just piled in the
drawers.
We need some type of organization.
I was thinking about having a carpenter
make a bunch of angled Dado cuts in
some wood to keep them arranged.
Either that or ask for some of that
Kaizen foam.

In the drawer next to the hammers. For some reason those tools seem to go together.

I have mine hanging in the dead space under the window on the wall. I next-to-never use them, so they don't need to hog up precious drawer space. I think I have only used one of them once in the last decade.

I use a strip of 1x2 screwed into studs on the wall, with long screws screwed into it about halfway through. I hang wrenches from it, the largest wrench closest to the wall. It works fine. Long nails can be used too.

My grandfather’s Craftsman (I think) carpenters box, on the bottom shelf. The shelf is about 10-12” deep, and gust below knee level (I’m short), so it’s accessible, but still out of the way.

I keep the 3/4” ratchet and sockets in there too, in the removable tray.

HF sells floor mats. I had something similar laying around. It cuts easily and glues with contact cement. Here is how I did it for my oddball wrenches. If I were going bigger, I might glue two pieces together.

I made up a few wrench holders just like for the smaller ones. Stack them on edge to get the most in my big wrench drawer. Up to 2 inches in this drawer. Sharpie there for reference.

Big wrenches take up too much space in a box to me. But I also have a whole shop at my disposal for tool storage.

I had a spare 2x4 that was ripped down the middle. Screwed it to the wall studs and then put a screw in it for each wrench to hang on in order. Sizes written above each wrench. Simple, out of the way, and I already have an eye on the wrench I need when I'm walking towards them

Hang the box end on the outside of your tool box. Two plates bolted to the outside of the box with a hole in them for a dowel to slide through. Weld a stopper on one end. Use a lock to secure the other end.

I do use mine semi-regularly.
Big Carabiner from out-of-service retractible lifeline thru the box ends.
You can spin the carabiner around thru the wrenches to get to the one you want.
Sets are in order in an old oilcloth mason's bag.
Like a canvas Klien electrician's bag, but heavier, older and waterproof(ish)
