I'll have to find a better pic, but I'm not near my tools right now.

I have a drawer too but it is more cluttered than that one!! I keep everything (not always good) so it is full of all sorts of hammers.

I'd rather lay them on their faces to save room but the drawers aren't deep enough.

I finally made this stand to solve my hammer storage problem. I designed it as a hammer forming stand for the leather sand bags (shown laying on the tire, not filled with sand yet).

Construction is an old bias ply tire that showed up here, a wheel and hub from a '58 Buick I parted out, a driveshaft from the junkyard for $5 for the upright, the round steel disc for the table top was at the junk yard too, saving me the effort of cutting one out of some steel I had. The holders are exhaust tubing I flared one end with, using a home-made bellmouth flare in my shop press. (The bellmouth flare is a scrap stub of heavy-wall tubing, with the outside radius of one end ground at a 45-degree angle on my bench grinder, then pressed it into the end of the exhaust tubing)

The moon disc was an orphan from my swap meet.

I probably have more in paint (Rustoleum flat black and red) than the materials.

It also makes a great portable welding table for small projects.

The project showed up in Hot Rod Deluxe magazine, and Home Shop Machinist.

Brad54,

I am stealing your design. That is the best set up I have seen around and better than my peg board set up.

thanks

I keep mine in a drawer in my rollaway box with the mallets, punches, and other tools for striking.

I don't have any special hammers though, so none need to be protected. The exception is the body hammer, which is in the set with the rest of the body tools, rather than in the drawer.

I just cut some round holes in some scrap wood to stand them upright so they're not laying over each other in the drawer.

Ball peens and such are keep in a drawer in my tool box. My main claw hammer kept in tool belt while the other claw hammers are hung on pegboard. Along side those claw hammers are the 3lb sledge, brick hammer and tack hammer.

I took a 2X4 and using a hole saw cut 5-1 1/2" holes in it and attack it to the left end of my work bench to hold the hammers. The 2 claw hammers hang over the edge to the tool chest.

All my hammers (about 30) hang on a 4x4 pegboard on the wall. Nothing fancy, not even worth a picture. Works great, easy to find the right hammer, easy to notice a missing hammer, plus I think a four-foot square of various hammers is beautiful wall art.

I figured as much, care to provide a little more info on their use? :dunno:

Looks like they are called bossing mallets for anyone interested.

Mine mostly get used to straighten up stuff when a pilot has run out of talent & buggered up something very expensive. But they sometimes get used on auto & motorcycle bodywork, depending on how much percussive persuasion is required.

I only have a few drawers organized this well, but this one was def worth it:

It also helps them find their way back when they get "borrowed" (I think the lady now knows that I'm keeping track of them ;) )

In a giant pile...I tried stacking them nicely on their sides but that drawer also has big combo wrenches and channellocks, etc, it become a conflict of interests. I just use the most suitable one closest to the top.
