Working in the shop, doing some car work, on a hot day, which has become typical this summer.

Now that I have the ceiling back in, it should cool back down a bit. I can usually maintain 12-15 degrees cooler than the outside temp.

If you have an uninsulated building, by midafternoon, it's probably matching outside temps.

Upstairs in the loft area with an uninsulated metal building I hit 105 on Saturday but it was 83 in the area below with only the 1/2 stryfoam 4/8 sheets as a ceiling. Upstairs has a full house fan to try and air it out but my gabel vent seems to kill aoiflow. Down stairs just a few oscolating fans seems to keep air moving and things somewhat acceptable

It usually stays relatively cool in our garage, around 55-65 deg most times if outside temps stay below 80 deg. During the last couple weeks when the temps were running 95+ outside and we were in and out, my garage high temp only got to 76 deg but it was kinda humid. I'm sure if we opened the overhead door it would have gone WAY up. Now we're gonna hafta put in AC!

Dang! I am so thankful my shop has AC. It has been pretty hot and humid here in NC. We run about 75-80 in the summer. I hate it for all you guys.

It's been between 95 and 100 (dry Colorado heat though) for the past couple weeks. The garage stays between 85 and 90 until mid afternoon. By 4 or so I've got a good sweat going. I think it's time for AC. I can get by without it but it's far easier to stay productive when it's 75. I know I don't have it as bad as you guys in humid climates and I'm thankful for that for sure.

R-30 in the walls and ceiling and a big 220 volt window ac unit and it stays cool n dry. I used to sweat when I worked in my original garage but since i built the new addition life is good. I don't think I would ever move into another garage without taking the time to insulate it properly.

100 degrees outside yesterday. About 80 in the garage. I love insulation! If it want it cooler than 80, I turn on the A/C. :D

I wouldn't even step inside my garage if it was 90 degrees in there except to turn on the fans and A/C. I'm a cold weather person. 80 degrees is about my limit of being able to function without getting sick.

It ranges 95-105(in the shop) with high humidity from end of May to end of September here in exactly the middle of Florida.

I just don't enjoy working in a sticky, hot garage. I picked up an 18,000 BTU thru-wall unit on clearance for $300 last year. It keeps my garage 72* when it's in the nineties. ;)

During the strectch of upper 90's we had a week ago it reached over 100 in the garage at my shop. It normally runs a few degrees cooler in the garage but when the sun gets that intense it turns into a sauna. I loose 10-15 pounds a summer. Jus cant figure out how to keep it off

I ripped out portions of water damaged drywall ceilings in preperation to rewire and someday re-insulate. I figured, while i had the dumpster, fill it up. Now the shop is way hotter than before. At least the debris is gone...

Does anyone run evaporative coolers in there shop/garage? If so, how are the tools standing up to the humidity? It's hot in AZ and it's cheaper than AC.

In AZ (and NM, probably UT and NV too) the humidity is low enough that a swamp cooler will actually work and not make things a soggy mess. In summer, a swap cooler in NM will freeze you out of the house. In Fort Worth, it'll make you switch to fan only and go stand in the shower. Very, very climate dependent.

Sounds like Houston in winter. Around here, people start complaining at about 55%. 20~45% is more normal and I've seen single digits lots in the summer. We got rain yesterday and it was only 60% this morning.

Hot and humid here in NC. We set some records for heat about a week ago, 106 outside.

I have a through the wall AC unit that keeps me at 75 or so. Garage is 1350 sq. ft.

One thing I do want to get is a dehumidifier. The AC pulls the moisture out of the room, but I think it would be much more effective (and easier on my power bill) if it could cool dry air instead of working with more than 75% humidity.

The other day it was 114 and the garage was 118 and I was welding. Arizona *****!

x2... I do have a small (very old) swamp cooler, but it still tends to stay around 100 with it on.....:(

i can feel the humidity when on, but i have some posters on the walls & i have not seen them "curl" yet.....

My tools are doing fine. I do a both wood and metal stuff. Both are fine. My wood doesnt swell and my cast iron tops of the table saw joiner etc are rust free.
Get the biggest one you can afford and have space for. They work really good in May-June. When the monsoons start to hit they aren't as effective.

For instance, in June, the air coming out of teh swamp cooler will be 20-25 degree cooler. Right now, with the rain we have gotten, its about 10 degrees cooler then ambient. Still helps.

I have a master cool portable. Biggest mastercool portable home depot carries.

EDIT: One more thing. You have to have air flow through your shop. If you dont it just turns into a humid mess. So you have play with the doors to find the right amount of air coming in/going out.
