How I installed my cabinets in a pole barn

I thought I would show how I mounted the upper cabinets in my pole barn because when I did a search all I could find was information telling people to frame out the space and build it that way, which is probably the correct way but I think mine will work.

Anyway, I wanted my cabinets to mount flush with the posts and not stick out wasting space since my building is not insulated and has no interior walls. So I decided to buy some joist hangers and use 2x4's I had on hand. So I measured out the mounting points of where the cabinets were going to be a placed the hangers so they position the 2x4 in the center. I placed three 2x4's due to having a short cabinet in the middle and then the short one on the end required a different set of 2x4's due to being in a different stretch. I recessed the 2x4's back a 1/4" and then placed 1/4" plywood making a smooth transition from posts to plywood allowing for a smooth mount for the cabinets that transitioned from the posts to the 2x4.

Forgot to get pictures after adding the plywood but I think you can understand the point with the few pictures I have.

Probably not the best way but I feel it will serve the purpose.

I like it. So the plywood is continuous from your top 2x4 down to the lowest one?

Also, are those post sleeves at the base of your columns in picture two?

Yep plywood is continuous from top 2x4 to bottom 2x4. The plywood acting as a backsplash for the bench and is only mounted to the top. I just put it there to prevent stuff from rolling behind the bench.

Yes, those are a rubber type sleeve on the posts. They are green posts with a wrap.

Do you know how much those added per post? Do you have a build thread?
I think I have the info, I'll check later. I have started a build thread to throw some pictures up but not much info in it.

Did you use deck screws or drywall screws or framing nails? I hope you passed on the drywall screws
