How long each stage took?

The garage looks great! I'm planning on constructing a garage myself (for my parents), but I do have some time constraints. Do you have any idea on how long this took? Or even better, how long each stage took? Thanks!

With all that information put forth about you and your project I would say 6 months to 6 years. Give out a bit more information and that could be narrowed down a bit. Mine below took near a year to excavate and build to completion.

My 24x24 took about 4 weeks, end to end, minimal grading, vinyl siding and soffit, gutters. Minimal AHJ hassle, and only one electrical inspection required. No zoning or plan review needed. Concrete was lined up before we broke ground.

Friend's 30x42 took over a year, metal had to be ordered and reordered, rains, wind and weather postponed every aspect, inspections would take at least a week, once the residential inspections were completed. Contractor was part time on it, at best. Lift has been sitting in a bay for 3 months, awaiting installation. And so on...

A lot depends on the weather, your ability to keep up with materials that need to be ordered, plans for the next stage. I spent a lot of time drawing up "details" of roofing, siding, window flashing, etc.

25x40, I drew the plans in Jan/Feb, got permits, in my first summer I got the dirt and concrete work done. Framed over the winter, roofed the next spring, sided during summer and had final inspect with rough interior by fall, so 1.5 years to dried-in. Still working on it thru another entire year but that's due to bells and whistles I keep dreaming up.

I worked on it ~2-3 days a week until the roof was done. I attached to an existing building which made for some detail work in merging the two. A freestanding building would be easier. I have a steel I-beam header inside which required some extra fabrication of details that took time.

If interested in the process, more info here:

A month is gracious plenty in good weather. If you put up a post steel building or pole barn, the building itself turns into 2 or 3 days work, and all the rest of the time is site prep and concrete.

...I built this 26 X 34 building/with full stairs by myself in one month,..from start to finish,...but I did have help on the concrete and the roof rafters,..but that was 34 years ago, I've slowed down some since then,...I'm pretty proud of it as it still looks new to me.

I'm a couple of weeks from a year from the day I broke ground for my 44x50. I'm doing everything myself, and unfortunately have had to take 3 months off (so far) following 4 broken vertebrae, a broken shoulder and shoulder surgery.

Once I finish the roof, siding will be next. I don't have a scheduled date to resume yet.

(I was attaching the ridge cap on the metal roof and was caught by a surprise rainshower - forecast was 0% chance. I have a harness, but was not wearing it. Once you lose traction, there's no way to stop. 12' at the eaves, and I'm incredibly lucky I'm still walking and above ground.)

Is that a wooden ladder I see in one of those pictures! 34 years ago probably more common.

I took just under a year from breaking ground to finish interior paint, but that was doing
everything after the concrete myself except helped the electrician run the wires from the
house to the garage, ( I had already dug the trench and run conduit). Had to work on it as customer jobs and weather allowed, cleared the roof of snow 4 times while shingling.
I admit that at 63 I took my time. 24 by 30, 12/12 roof pitch with interior stairs to second floor storage.

How much money do you have? What's your time worth? I started my 24x36 garage in December of 2014 with dirt work and foundation walls, put up the walls and the roof during the summer of 2015, poured the slab in April 2016, and put siding on and windows in last fall. I have probably $50k into the building, and 99% of the work has been done by others. I still have to paint/stain the exterior, and I am still working on the interior, slowly finishing insulation, electrical and heating, and it's now been almost 4 years, but all the remaining work is on my own time. All I wanted was a completed shell with doors.
