How long for new compressor to fill up

I just connected my new dewalt 20 gallon compressor, oil lubed and after plugin it in for about ten minutes it was only about a quarter full. I shut it off just in case but that seems very slow to fill up. What is a reasonable expectation in time?

Check and make sure the drain valve at the bottom of the tank is fully closed.

Right, that is too slow. Check all those things and also soapy water on any compression fittings.

Bump after four months of avoiding this issue with the compressor. It's not leaking bc it maintains pressure but it doesn't fill up nor does the motor stop. I'm dumbfounded.

I'm dumbfounded you would keep a likely defective compressor over four months without returning it. Sounds like the pump is either bad, or it's bleeding off air after a certain pressure. Do yourself a favor, return it to Sears before its too late...

I doubt he can return it to Sears. I think he waited too long

Now, he's probably going to have to get it repaired under warranty instead of just swapping it for a working one.

After you guys mentioning the pump, I did some googling and it looks like that could be it. I just didn't have a clue where to start on the diagnosis.

Cliff's notes on the 7 month wait: New property was being built, found the compressor on sale, bought it, and stored it until property finished, a few months later.

Looking at Sears.com it look to have a 12 month warranty. I am calling them later today. Worse case scenario, repair the pump.

keep you posted.

You better get on the stick . . . your Sears could be closed if you dilly dally too long ! :D

Return that defective compressor ASAP with your paperwork and get NEW one !!

Sears is desperate to keep customers so do NOT leave until you have new compressor in hand. Raise a stink if worker gives you any flack. Escalate to the manager right away.

A one year warranty is not the same as a one year return policy.

The one year warranty is through the manufacturer. The Sears return policy on this item is probably 60 days.

According to this, the return policy for "tools, paint and hardware items" is 60 days:
http://www.sears.com/csreturnspolicy/nb-120000000359321

This is Dewalt's issue to fix. This link includes a link to the manual with the warranty spelled out in it.
http://www.sears.com/dewalt-20-gall...p-00916811000P?prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1

Here's a link directly to the product manual that spells out the warranty:
http://i.sears.com/s/d/pdf/mp-tc/spinpdf/spin_prod_1014164612

Limited Warranty
DEWALT Industrial Tools are warranted from date of purchase.

2 Year – Limited warranty on oil-lubricated air compressor
pumps.

1 Year – Limited warranty on all other air compressor
components. This warranty is not transferable to
subsequent owners.

DEWALT will repair or replace, without charge, at DEWALT’s
option, any defects due to faulty materials or workmanship.
For further detail of warranty coverage and warranty repair
information, call 1-(888)-895-4549 or visit dewalt.com.

if they give you any flack, buy another one identical and return the defective one for refund.

even if had run perfect for 7 months and then failed, they still ethically owe you a new (not refurb) compressor.

a decent compressor should last at a minimum 10 years with no issues, just oil changes, and really more like 20+

Dewalt owes him a new (or repaired) compressor, not Sears.

The warranty is through the manufacturer. Sears and other retailers are just nice enough to offer a return policy. In theory, they could deny a return during the return period in a situation like the OP's and say "that's a manufacturing defect that's covered under the factory warranty, not our returns policy."

If the OP wanted Sears to handle the issue, he should have returned it right away.

The warranty is through Dewalt and I believe that's who the OP should contact, just like the Dewalt manual says to do.

That sounds correct. Need to check out things when you get them.
