just built a 32x40 garage with 10 ft walls, going to put the 8 ft. 4 bulb fixtures from lowes up , but not sure how many i need. shop will be used mainly for woodworking.
I used 17 of them in my 24x40 with 12' ceilings:

I can see 29 fixtures there. Each with two 8 foot bulbs. T8's with electronic ballasts for cold starting and no hum are the way to go.
No wonder you had to photoshop those Ray Charles glasses onto your pic...Mine are 8-foot fixtures, each has four 4' T8 tubes.
The three center rows are 4 fixtures each, then two in the far row, with a gap between them where the bathroom is, and above where the picture was shot from there are three, in an L-shape, around the corner, above my workbench.
68 tubes total.
Lighting is just right for working.

For reference, this is twelve 8 ft-4 bulb fixtures in a 30' x 40' mounted 12' and 14' above the floor. This is 120 lumens sq/ft compared to Steevo's 198 lumens sq/ft.
.my lights are T8, total of forty eight 32 watt bulbs rated at 3000 lumens each.
Calculate lumens by (number of bulbs x lumens per bulb divided by sq ft.)
Are those T8 or T5 bulbs ? You have 48 bulbs for 1,200 sq.ft.
I'm looking at 84 54watt T5 bulbs for 2,400 sq.ft. That's 130FC. I don't know how that translates to Lumens? Each lamp puts out 4,450 Lumens.
So, would this be 156 Lumens?
My other shop is 34'x48'x10'. That's 1632 sq.ft. Looking at installing 64 54w T5 bulbs. That computes to 145FC. Each lamp is 4,500 Lumens.
So, would this be 176 Lumens? If so, I guess I could back off on the number of bulbs.
Not sure how to calculate Lumens.

I get 12 for your case at 90fc
Thank you for this!!!! I have been looking for something like this for a while!!!
Just out of couriousity how you do calculate fc? Also what is a good number to shoot for?
Thank You,
Chris
Thank you very much!!!!! One more dumb question. Once I get lumens per square feet, how do I convert that to fc?
