Re: How many ratchets do you own ?

Hmmm,

1/4" Craftsman v, new craftsman, noname cheapie flex head

3/8" older Craftsman (?), reg. round SK, 'Companion' long flex head, 'Husky' in the JY box

1/2" reg and long handled old Proto, Craftsman flying v, reg round SK

I'm thinking of getting a set of the HF composite ratchets.

Re: How many ratchets do you own ?

13.

Craftsman 1/2" quick release
Craftsman 3/8" quick release
Craftsman 1/2" round head
2x Craftsman 3/8" round head
Craftsman 84t
2x SK 1/2"
SK 3/8"
SK 1/4"
SK 1/4" (different than the other)
Indestro 3/8"
Gearwrench 1/4"

Most of the time, I buy ratchets just to buy them, and they hardly get used if I can get away with using some cheap Chinese ratchet no name that I picked up at a fleamarket. I have a few of those lying around too, so 16 total.

Not a professional mechanic but use tools at work quite a bit.

1/4 - 3
3/8 - 7
1/2 - 3

13 total. I have been doing a lot of work on equipment at work with 1/2, I need to pick up a flex head long handle 1/2. And I am sure there are other ratchets that I need but just don't know it yet.

6 - 1/2"
8 - 3/8"
3 - 1/4"

So 19 total.

I feel better about what I thought was a few too many...now that I have heard from others.

Wrenching professionally and I only have 5 at work. I only use 3 out of 5. At home, there's about 5 also. Rarely wrench at home.

if my memory serves me correctly, I have 10 to date. 1 Mastercraft set that included 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2", A junk set that I keep in the trunk of the car because I haven't felt the need to throw it away, that includes 1/4 and 3/8, a limited edition Mastercraft Maximum black chrome set with a 3/8" that was a gift, 2 3/8 Challengers (model #s escape me at the moment), a no-name Princess Auto 1/4", and another little set with a 3/8" that goes in my tool bag.

I have acquired the majority of these by gift mostly. I think the only one I bought was the big Mastercraft set. I am likely going to buy a new flex head 3/8 and 1/4 in the summer once I start working again.

Ok, A buddy of mine is a Ford Tech and has been for a little over 10 years. He was giving me a hard time yesterday because I own 24 ratchets not including breaker bars or air ratchets. He only has 6 at work and 3 at home. He thinks Im nuts but I dont have a machine shop at my house (he does) so I think we all have our vices. So thats it, I wonder if Pros have more or less than just a guy who works on cars and how many you have. I bet at 24 I dont have that many.

Im Pro / Am ;)
Ya know I never counted..
So I just did
12 not including TQ wrenches, breaker bars, T type slide bars

About 20 give or take - I'm a non pro but a very avid DIY'er - I do all the work on my own cars including my BMW track car which I've completely built piece by piece (at some point I have taken apart every faster on the car)

The funny part is when I did most of the work on building the track car I had fewer tools and the ones I had for the most part were much lower quality than what I've accumulated now. You can certainly get away with only having a few ratchets but when you start using flex heads and dual flex ratchets or various length handle ratchets, it's hard to go back!

1/2
1 Stanley
1 Bostitch
1 Proto
1 Craftsman
1 no name piece of junk that I actually just use as the handle for my accordion style transmission jack

3/8
1 Williams
1 Kobalt
3 HF pros (flex head, dual flex handle and a composite)
1 Proto
1 Koken
1 Bostitch
1 Craftsman
1 piece of **** Allied(?)
1 I don't know the brand of - it's an old round head old and is stamped "P-F" - Looks like an SK but I'm pretty sure it's not. It doesn't seem like the highest quality but it does still work

1/4
1 HF Pro
1 Bostitch
1 Craftsman

I'm a pro. I have eight, not including torque wrenches and air ratchets. I could probably use one more, a longer 1/2" flex head, but otherwise, these are the only types I would ever really need. I even removed a few about a month ago because they offered nothing that these don't already do better.

ive got way too many but i just like different types of ratchets. some handles, some heads, some the sound, some the feel, the look. i use just about all of them for different jobs from time to time. i have my favorites, but they all have their place.

this is not all of them. i recently purchased 5 more to go in the drawer. i have 3 in a road box, 3 in my track box, and i probably have 8 or 10 more that are stashed in a collectors box that i dont use.

im going to sales sunday to look for more :)

1x 1/4" Craftsman VT Raised Panel
1x 3/8" Craftsman KV Raised Panel
1x 1/2" Craftsman VF Raised Panel

...and because my count is so low I'm going to toss in my Proto 1/2" torque wrench.
