Non-pro tool user, but used to collect ratchets. If I had to add them all up, probably own 50 ratchets. I'm including in that, some tools that I inherited from an Uncle around 10 years ago and I'm unsure as to how many he had when his stuff came my way.
One of the things that I've found, is that MOST guys who turn wrenches for a living in some form or fashion AREN'T TOOL JUNKIES, the way people at this board are. I can recall 18-20 years ago, having a tech at the local Goodyear shop ask me a question about the vehicle I brought in for service. I went out to the shop, so he could show me something under the hood and I was admiring his SK ratchet he had in his hand. When I asked if the ratchet he was using was fine-toothed or not, he looked at me like in bewilderment and then asked me the difference. To him, it was just a instrument used to do a job and nothing more-not something to be admired. He didn't have any more affection and/or interest in the tools he used on a daily basis than a secretary would have with his/her stapler or the chair she sat in at her desk. FWIW.
