Re: How many ratchets do you own ?

1/4 in drive: 10
3/8 in drive: 10
1/3 in drive: 9
3/4 in drive: 1

Total: 30

guess I need another 1/2 in to make the numbers even on the main drive. The 3/4 ratchet and socket set started when I owned a truck

You have 1/3'' ratchets, admire. I guess it is hard to find sockets.

Re: How many ratchets do you own ?

1/4":
Short Snap On
Roto head Snap On
SK shorty
SK palm control
Old Cornwell shorty

3/8:
Snap On bent (sparkplug) dual 80 comfort
Snap On long flex head dual 80 comfort
SK standard
SK slim / short (3/8 drive in 1/4 body)

1/2":
Armstrong long
Craftsman long flex

3/4"
Plomb - this is used as my big breaker bar too...weighs about 25 pounds I think.

12 total. I'm looking to add a standard 3/8" comfort grip snappy, a standard 1/2 comfort snappy, and a couple 1/4" comfort grip snap on ratchets. I'd buy a long locking flex 1/2 if they had them in comfort grip. My next buy is going to be a 24" comfort breaker though, as the 3/4 plomb is just so rediculously heavy for that job.

Re: How many ratchets do you own ?

I have 16 ratchets. my go to ratchet is the "stanley rotator".
View media item 11920my favorite ratchet was a no name GM goodwrench that I had since I was 16. when it failed on me I welded a fuel pump block off plate on the handle and turned it into a bottle opener.

The current count for me is over 80. It has actually dropped because I'm weeding out all the craftsmans, except for the premiums.

Re: How many ratchets do you own ?

Only 8. 4 SK's, which I absolutely love. 3 are Stanleys, which came in a big kit. I absolutely despise these because they like to change direction at random. There is also a cheapo no-name Taiwan ratchet, which seems pretty tough, but is not very nice to use.

Re: How many ratchets do you own ?

I have 20. All snap on. I like to use a different one when I need another size. That way when going back together I dont have to switch. Plus its kinda like **** for me.
My go to is the snap ons from the 90s. I have cheater piped all of them and they have never skipped a beat. Never been open. I did strip my new long flex head dual 80 today. Its about 2 months old. I was testing it though.......21 mm bolt on a H3 alignment. No cheater........I told the snap on guy I could strip it by hand and he said I couldnt! That said I still love those ratchets! Yesterday that ratchet had a lighter ratchet action than my gearwrench wrenches. Its not the one I use for the stubborn stuff, but its the first one I go for everyday.

Depends on how you work. I have found that on any given job, once a socket goes on a ratchet, it stays on that ratchet for the duration of the job. If I need another size, I grab another ratchet.

Hmmm, with that approach, you should think about dedicating a few ratchets to particular size sockets for the most commonly use sockets, and rack them that way. Have a couple more for the odd size use, and you still have the option of "borrowing" one for odd jobs if you run out. (No, I'm not being sarcastic!)

Re: How many ratchets do you own ?

Well this got me thinking about how many ratchets I had. I thought I had about 15 maybe a few more knowing I had a few in a box I keep at a storage garage I rent. I counted the ones I had at home and came up with 32 so with the ones in my storage that makes 35.

Re: How many ratchets do you own ?

1/4 Craftsman RHFT
1/4 SnapOn
1/4 TruTest (USA) Round head

3/8 Wright compact
3/8 Cornwell compact

3/8 Cornwell Pear head
3/8 Mac Round head
3/8 Craftsman RP (2)
3/8 Husky Round head (In original bubble pack)
3/8 Litton Round head (NOS) stuck in drawer and I'll probably never use it
3/8 Snapon long handle
3/8 Trutest flex (USA) Round head
3/8 Matco flex Round head
3/8 Craftsman Pro bent handle flex
3/8 Trutest stubby (Taiwan) Round head
3/8 Mac gearless stubby

O-ratchet

1/2 Craftsman RP (2)
1/2 Husky Round head (2)
1/2 Wright Round head
1/2 Craftsman RP long handle
1/2 Mac long handle Pear head
1/2 Cornwell long handle Pear head
1/2 Craftsman RP flex

3/4 Unknown (probably older Taiwan) Round head
3/4 Craftsman RP
3/4 Par-X
3/4 SnapOn

1/4 Blue Point air ratchet
3/8 Mac air ratchet

3/8 Matco ratcheting torque wrench
1/2 Craftsman ratcheting torque wrench

The Snapon 3/8 long handle gets the most use, and the Cornwell 1/2 did until some body working in my shop used a cheater, with a SnapOn two foot breaker and the 3/4 drive stuff instantly available to them, go figure! I use the Par-X 3/4 rather than the SnapOn because it has a ball detent, and the SnpOn has a pin. The bar handles for either of these are lighter and less clumsy than the forged handle of the Craftsman, and pipe fits over them reallywell

As I get older I go for longer handles first, it reduces the stress on my hands and arms. In many cases the 3/4 drive stuff isn't nearly long enough without a cheater of some sort.

3/8:
SK 45170
Snap On F-730
Snap On F726
Wera Zyklop in the mail on its way to me.

1/4:
Snap On TML836
Snap On TM711
Snap On TM738

1/2:
Craftsman 943797
Mac VR15
Sk 42470
Craftsman 44809

I use mainly the Snap on ratchets, most of the time my F730. I don't use the half inch drive sockets much but when I do I almost always use my MAC VR15.
