Around 20. Only 2 foreign. 1 Chinese Craftsman 3/8 flex I'm trying to break to see if normal usage (aka no cheater) will damage it with too much force. The other is a 3/8 Duralast that is nice for the money. It just a beater ratchet also, so get's used for average things, nothing crazy.

1/4" Drive - 1
3/8" Drive - 3 (stubby flex, snappy, and a composite)

I was feeling pretty smug that I don't have a whole bunch of ratchets, just what I use.

UNTIL I started counting:

3/4" Proto
3/4" Williams
2 - 1/2" Proto
3 - 3/8" Proto
3/8" Proto Flex
3/8" Duro Chrome Flex
1/2" Indestro Flex
1/4" Proto
1/4" Snap-on Midget
1/4" Snap-on Flex
1/4" Snap-on Soft Handle
3/8" Snap-on
3/8" SK Stubby
1/2" SK Long Handle
3/8" SK
1/2" SK
2 - 1/2" Williams
1/4" Craftsman
3/8" Craftsman

23 total.

I have a few that are duplicates that I could get rid of:

2 - 3/8" Proto
1/2" Proto
3/8" SK
1/4" Snap On Flex
1/4" Snap On soft handle
1/2" Williams

Or, better yet, get rid of the Craftsman and substitute Proto and Snap On.

However, I need a 3/8" Williams and a 1/4" Williams to complete a nostalgia set I'm assembling.

So, have 23, could get rid of 7, need 2 more: Total I would use is 18, of which 3 would be in my Williams Nostalgia box and not really used.

I'm amazed that I use 15 ratchets regularly. I need 10 as a minimum, the other 5 are a convenience so I don't have to go to the garage from the house shop or a part of socket sets that I want to keep intact.

I have 44 ratchets. I like variety, and having ratchets that feel like they were made for specific jobs.

1/4" Drive-14. CM RP, RHFT, Low Pro, Prem., SO stubby, New Britain FT Flex handle.

3/8" Drive-18. CM RP, RHFT, Low Pro, Prem., several HF 72 tooth, SO indexing head, SO FK80 stubby, and SO FC72 compact head.

1/2" Drive-10. CM RP, RHFT, Low Pro, Prem., couple of HF 72 tooth.

3/4" Drive-2. Craftsman RP, SO L872 head on a L872RM 36" handle

5 total:

2x 1/4"
2x 3/8"
1x 1/2"

Though I would like a flex 1/2". I was able to do everything I needed with them (non pro).

I probably 4 1/4", 5 or 6 3/8" and 3 1/2". Always nice to have spares around.

I have ratchets from:

Craftsman
Husky
Kobalt
SK
Harbor Freight

Honestly speaking, I think the Craftsman's are my least favorite. For some reason the classic Craftsman teardrop is the one tool I can consistently manage to kill. It's the only supposedly quality tool I've ever killed. I've killed a good 2 or 3 3/8" over the years and one 1/4".

I've been wanting to do an inventory including some new additions for a while so I ran out to the box and I'm kinda shocked to find I have 27 ratchets. That was before I even signed up here... I think things are going to get even worse if I keep hanging around here!

I was never, am not and have no plans to wrench for a living but do most any maintenance, repairs and modifications on my own cars, trucks, motorcycles, ATV, lawn equipment and son on. I wouldn't have guessed so many but after a count I am somewhere north of 30, south of 40. Not pictured are the 2 in some NOS Proto sets I snagged cheap on Ebay and haven't figured out what to do with, the 4 or 5 in the truck and car bags and a few in my "sell on Ebay or GJ" box. Here is the garage box lineup in the 56" Tool Vault Combo. The SK round heads and the Craftsman thin profile 80th in all 3 sizes are some favorites. I haven't had the Armstrong Maxx flex head for long but they seem nice.I know most have a dedicated socket drawer but my box is mostly 2" drawers so I have a 1/2 drawer, a 3/8 drawer (I see I forgot to put the 3/8 SK roundhead in the tray before the pic), a 1/4 drawer, plus one for bit sets and 1/4 impact. The smallest 1/4 is the tip from a broken click type torque wrench. I'm shopping for a long handle 1'4 and I think I'm done for a while.

Lets see if I can name them from the weak pictures. 1/2 drive: Armstrong Max flex head, Proto long handle industrial (a beast), SK RHFT, KD USA, C'mon 80th anniversary thin, Wright, Cman USA industrial. 3/8 drive: SO duel 80 flex head, Armstrong Maxx flex head, SO dual 80, Proto, Cman 80th anniversary thin, Gray, SK RHFT, Wright 3/8 in 1/4 body, SK thumbwheel. 1/4 drive: Armstrong Max flex head, SO dual 80 (?), Cman 80th anniversary thin, KD, SK RHFT, KD torque wrench head, SO low profile, SK thumbwheel.

Follow-up post below shows the last of the ratchets, mostly KD USA sets in my basement boxes.

Basement workshop sets in 1/4 and 3/8. Clearly 30+ is more than needed but it is handy during a vehicle project to have the 3 or 4 sockets you are using most on their own ratchet with the extensions all in place and not be constantly swapping pieces. I think I could live with a dozen instead of the 25 or so in my main box but most of the extras were cheap.
