Just thinking of moving my box loaded. I’ve done it before but I was better equipped then trailer and truck wise. I was wondering what your boxes weigh loaded and what size the box is.

KRL1023 weighs 892 unloaded. I emptied it out for the most part to move it ( U-haul trailer, worked well).

With the large wrenches and 3/4 drive stuff it would have been a bad idea to move it loaded. No idea of the actual loaded weight, box + tools, other then 16oz per pound.

If you have to move it any distance (over 10 miles) it'd be worth taking the heavy stuff out.

I think my box only weighs like 425 pounds empty or something. I did move it loaded about 700 Miles before but i took the top off and put blocking under to take the weight off the casters. This move would only be over 100 Miles.

Since you don't plan on weighing it, can you give us some more information on your box?

What is in it (pictures help)? What size, brand, type of box?

From my understanding, the general recommendation is to move your box unloaded, but obviously circumstances can get in the way. Likewise it would help to know a little bit of context about what we're up against so we can help to give you better recommendations.

I don’t have pics or anything. It’s a 40” remline treadplate top and bottom. It’s pretty stuffed with mechanics tools. I just want to know what a normal box of this size might weigh so I won’t overload a trailer.

I'm assuming my krl1022 weighs at least 2000lbs loaded. Just the roll cab, I don't have a hutch or a countertop on it. I recently moved it twice in a tandem axle uhaul encloses trailer- I would not recommend this option. If the weather er is nice I would consider a uhaul tandem axle open trailer but the tie down option in the enclosed trailers *****.

I would take a guess that the box you have isnt going to weight much more the 400-500lbs empty, so even if you add 1000lbs of tools, it'll be in the ball park for a single axle trailer. Most single axle trailers are rated for 2000-3000lbs, so you should be ok using one. YMMV and all that.

The trailer I used had a couple wood crate boxes of tools, plus a couple more in the truck and while it looked heavy it handled the load no problem.

Thinking about it, you could check Snap-on's site for a comparable 40" model as they would give empty weights and that would be close or over what you have.

I've always moved my boxes loaded and they're packed full with tools. Used the '03 F-150 Screw before I built my 5'x10' trailer

I moved a fire-damaged KR1000, empty weight about 600 lbs, mine was loaded minus one drawer, and had a vice on top.

Welded a steel framework to support it from the bottom, with chains going through a spreader on the top which didn't carry any weight but prevented the lifting chains from pinching the upper part of the box.

Two loops of chains(left side and right side) bolted through the hook of a 2-ton engine hoist to lift it on and off the trailer. Had to play some games getting the chain lengths right for proper balance when lifted.

Once on the trailer, we screwed sections of 2X4s to the trailer deck around the wheels and ratchet-strapped the thing to the trailer frame. Didn't move, didn't damage the casters. About a 20-mile trip.

I moved my KR1000 around with a forklift, it was too heavy to control on sloped floors. I would estimate it weighs every bit of 1000-1200 loaded. I had a 1/2" steel plate top with a wilton vise on it, and if each drawer had an average of 50 pounds of tools, that's 800lbs of tools. Obviously I don't have 50 pounds of screwdrivers, but I bet I have 100 lbs of power tools in there to make up for it.

before i finished loading it was sitting on the bump stops..... :shocking:
