It depends on the condition. If it's pristine, then it would be a steal. If it's a wreck, it's overpriced.

Are the drawer pulls roundish (earlier)
or are they rectagular (later)

Does the cover have a water decal (earlier)
or does it have an embossed swirl with a sticker/decal in the middle (later)

Pictures would help us evaluate it.

JMHO, but you paid full value.

I think it depends on your area. In my area, everyone is asking at least $75 for ANY machinists box. I'm guessing but I'd bet that box would be about a $100 asking price in my area.

Either way, IMO the worth is based on the usage you get out of it. If you bought it for $10 and it's just a door stop, you wasted $10. If you paid $100 and use it every day for the next 10 years, you got a hell of a deal.

For true. Here's a Kennedy 260 for $69 asking and it's a better box in better condition.

NICE !
Is that box brown ? I thought they they were blue back then.

Here's a thread on how to remove the drawers/slides for cleaning and lubing.

Yes, its a brown box. Drawers are all silver hammertone with cork lining.

Thanks for the link. I had looked at it when I found a Huot drill index, but have not had a chance to chop up some metal strapping.

Tim: i like your purchase and I've been looking for a top box like that for a while now to match my bottom box. it has great lines and should clean up nicely. lots of help here if you need any and you might post the pictures and ask questions if you have any on the vintage toolbox thread.
