At the end of the day. 15 minutes to put things away and sweep up. It's a habit that I picked up at work. Makes the morning better too.

Rule of ten. Everytime you step into the garage put or throw away ten things. After a while you won't have ten things to do. I'm not there yet.

The rule of ten will keep me busy for many days.
If I remember to do it.

I did it today.

The engine rebuild and suspension refresh on my track car are officially done.

The white car belongs to my friend. We swapped for the day so he could do an alignment on my car.

Total cleaning time looks to have been four hours, although that would have to include going to lunch and picking my kid up from school.

Jack, WTF? I have never seen pictures of your shop with any clutter or anything out of place.

Mike.

not often enough... it takes a full day (2400sqf) to sweep the floors, getting everything moved out of the way, etc.... maybe once or twice a year.

I had posted my cleanup on GJ a few months ago and my kids continue to destroy the serenity of my sanctuary with their clutter. My father and I gave the place a fresh coat of white paint the other day - all the way up the 12' ceilings. I have two small areas and the ceiling to repaint, but it is SO much brighter already. Threw away tons of stuff, moved lots of non-garage items to storage and now have to look for some way to spend my $100 of Lowe's gift cards from my 40th birthday on Sunday. :)

I always put as much away as possible when I'm done for the day. As far as a through cleaning the shop which includes mopping the floors about once a month.
Right now there is a bit of stuff that does not belong there so I'm not motivated to clean it till that stuff leaves

i am in process of re-organizing the garage. rebuilding the workbench. dragged home 2 vidmars for storage. everything that was on/in the workbench in piles. nothing has a home at this point! it is killing me. i am working off of a piece of plywood across 2 saw horses and searching through piles to find things typically stored in the workbench. i miss my organized garage. i look forward to the day my garage is organized again.

at that point i typically clean up after each project. i routinely sweep the floor during metal working or wood working projects. all that dust under foot gets slippery.

My shop can get pretty messy in the middle of a project but there always comes a time that I suddenly can't stand it any more. It usually coincides with not being able to find a tool that I recently used but is not back in the box.

Fluids on the floor are a safety hazard and are dealt with right away.

I clean up after every job or project. Tools get cleaned if needed and put back very orderly in their specific spot in one of my boxes. Any fluids on the floor get cleaned up with brake cleaner and the floor gets swept. The garbage and can bin are emptied when full. The garage gets a more deep clean about once per month depending on usage.

I try to clean after any dusty project. I love having a small shop takes about 2 hours to move the stuff around, vaccum the floor and clean all horizontal surfaces.

I clean up about once a week. I work out of a 10x25 storage unit so its tiny compared to most on here. I have to clean the floors when I get back, they are covered in oil and dirt. ***** I can bring a pressure washer in there.

Mine's a bit of a working mess. I try to keep the stall floors where the vehicles can come and go clear unless there's an active project. Right now the paint is drying on a computer case I'm repainting, so that's a strike there.

My wife and I realized that we tend to cover surfaces. We don't mean to, it's just in our nature. Our new place has a dedicated dining room which helps us avoid piling that table up as we generally only go in there to eat. Anyway, my shop's counters have things covering them, my computer room has things covering the desk. I have a very hard time keeping such surfaces clear.

I end up cleaning up the shop about once a month, usually because too many things have gotten jumbled together. Right now, my main workbench has PVC fittings, Craftsman 19.2V batteries and chargers, a drill press, my fasteners sorter/storage, probably ten bags of stuff purchased from the hardware stores, a '78 Chrysler factory service manual, bicycle parts, drill bits and a couple of drills, my drill press, extra brass fittings for the air tools, sprinkler parts, and a slew of other stuff.

I clean up after each job or if it is a big job at the end of the day I will put everything in a cardboard box until the next day. I won't leave tools laying around to the point I forgot where I put them. Then the next day it's easier to clean the tools and put them away if they are all there in the box instead of walking a dozen different places to pick them up.

I just finished a 3 month duration project on my Camaro - easily the most disruptive project my garage has seen to date since I used almost every one of my tools to do the job. I borrowed my dad's pressure washer, emptied the garage into the driveway, cleaned the floors and workbench, and re-organized when I put everything back in place.

Hard to beat nice clean floors, an open workbench, and a place for everything (and everything in its place). Makes me want to start a new project!!

I have 4 kids, which means bikes toys and **** everywhere. It doesn't matter how many times I ask them to put their things away or to leave the mud outside.

I had a post on here of me cleaning out my garage and installing new stairs. Since then, my father and I repainted almost the entire garage and I got rid of at least 4 truckloads of ****. Some was stuff that needed to go in the basement and other things got burned or binned. Before I got rid of everything, I would empty the entire garage every 6 months or so, turn on the leaf blower, then wash and dry the floor.

Now I can almost see the entire floor and things are so much better in the garage now, but I've hardly put anything away yet. I'm trying to be careful with how I arrange everything, because I really like the completely organized look. Not being able to afford a thing for the garage at the moment really ***** though and does not allow for any "look" I am trying to accomplish.

Just gonna try and keep it clean as best I can. :)

At the end of the day, all the tools get a wipe down and put away. The air hoses get rolled back up and parts get picked up off the floor. If the floor got really messy, I'll sweep the traffic areas. At the end of the project, I'll blow out the entire space and at least once a year, the whole shop gets emptied, swept and mopped.

At least once a month I'll clear all the spider webs etc. and sweep it out, without moving all the boxes etc.

After every project, and in between. Sawdust is a ******. At least every month it gets dusted and blown out.

i am in process of a re-organization of the garage. i am also painting things, polishing others, and installing a butcher block top on the workbench. with everything starting to look nice i find myself vacuuming the grinding dust off the tool chests at the end of the night. i typically sweep the floor as i work. generate dust and immediately sweep it into a pile so i don't track it/ grind it in (i hate the sound and feel of it on the bottoms of my boots). sweep the pile up at the end of the night. as soon as i get my tools organized, they may even end up back in their drawers at the end of the night.

Right now I am cleaning my shop, it is soooo cluttered and messy that I move things five or more times just to get stuff out of the way, kind of like a puzzle. I think I am losing some battles, but my goal is to win the war.
