Mine's a bit of a working mess. I try to keep the stall floors where the vehicles can come and go clear unless there's an active project. Right now the paint is drying on a computer case I'm repainting, so that's a strike there.
My wife and I realized that we tend to cover surfaces. We don't mean to, it's just in our nature. Our new place has a dedicated dining room which helps us avoid piling that table up as we generally only go in there to eat. Anyway, my shop's counters have things covering them, my computer room has things covering the desk. I have a very hard time keeping such surfaces clear.
I end up cleaning up the shop about once a month, usually because too many things have gotten jumbled together. Right now, my main workbench has PVC fittings, Craftsman 19.2V batteries and chargers, a drill press, my fasteners sorter/storage, probably ten bags of stuff purchased from the hardware stores, a '78 Chrysler factory service manual, bicycle parts, drill bits and a couple of drills, my drill press, extra brass fittings for the air tools, sprinkler parts, and a slew of other stuff.
