How old is the tool box your still using?

I started using my garage sale SnapOn find, $7 bucks and I think 50 yrs out is old.I have pics posted elsewer on here of it.
My other oldest box is the one I bought from my cousin. He was like my Big Brother, He needed cash , I needed a tool box and that was that. It's a silver hammertoned Craftsman chest, Circa 1980's. it works,and I love it but it has grown too small.
My cousins son is my godson, And I am gonna let him take care of it as I know his Dad would approve.Bought me that tricky 7 drawer Craftman chest to put on the SnapOn.
But to set things straight, If I knew what I know now 25 yrs ago... And had the internet, I would never have paid more then $25 bucks for tool storage.

My 90 year old Grandpa still works in the shop everyday. His craftsman combo he bought new in '63 still works perfect. I have a kennedy roller from the 50's I use as a cart. I bought it two years ago and don't think it ever held a tool. My krl 1022 I bought new in '05 still works fine.

I still use my father's Snap-on KRA21 (Grey colored ) tool box that he bought before WWII. It is still Head Tool Box and is my go to box. I keep a few screw drivers, pliers, socket sets and wrenches that I use most in it. It sits on top of my Snap-On Classic 96 6' box.

Mine, I believe i bought in 1982, thats the year i started at a GM dealer, and still in use today, its been in numerous shops and even in shops across this country, i wouldnt buy bigger because it needed to fit in my truck!! Function wise everything still works fine but cosmetically its showing its age..

in my home shop i have a 1970's old craftsman and Kennedy boxes in nice shape still..

I am vertically challenged just like you and I get to a stepping ladder to get to my top box shelves and your idea of pallets are AWESOME!

All of my boxes are bought 2nd hand as I avoid the SO truck like the plague!



If was to get a newer box with deeper draws I would be set! But I am attached to anything that has American themed! When I do upgrade, these babies will be coming home!

Main Box & Right locker were purchased together and are from the 80's for $1,400 this past year.

Top Box with the American Eagle was $200, flank drive key

Left Side Cab, Middle Box with stainless steel and top box with Stainless steel was purchased with a main box for $500. I sold the bottom box bc I have no room for $100 to co worker. Apparently if was their grand father's box, passed down to Pop, passed down to Son and Son sold it to my wife. I would Say 50-60's!

. . . . . If you don't mind my asking, why do you have a 27" top and middle on a 33" bottom? Does it have any issues with warping the top since the bottom is wider?

The power-kraft setup is awesome. It looks just like the old craftsman boxes from the 50's.

I bought the top box first, then the following year I got the roll cab. I opted for a wider roll cab at that time. The middle unit came later.

I have had it that way since 1978, and it hasn't warped yet

I think having the same box for years and years, or your fathers/grandfathers is really cool. However I didn't appreciate that until a couple years ago so I don't have anything like that. I was always upgrading thinking I needed newer and bigger.

My Mac Tech 1000 I bought new in Oct of 2007. I have a craftsman top box I bought on sale at sears in 2004, along with the 400 piece tool set I got to start my apprenticeship with.

In the early '70s I bought used CM boxes and still use them. Repainted about 10 years ago. I don't recall what I paid, but here's a catalog too.

Bought the same model Craftsman 10 drawer back about 1970 or so, still looks like new, been in and out of half a dozen garages. Also have a Kennedy 7 drawer machinist chest I bought about 20 some years ago used; it's old enough to have square corners instead of the later rounded ones. Still in good shape.

The oldest cabinets I have are a Snap-on KC 532 top chest that I bought used in 1969 while I was still in high school. It was made in Canada. A few years ago I bought a roller cabinet to go with it. It was repainted by the previous owner and the model number was filled in. I believe it is a KR 558 made in the early 70's. Both cabinets work well but need to be restored.

I have a 75th anniversary snapon 65" wide 21 1/2" deep and 44" high with a stack on side box with 3 drawers and 1 shelf also a mac I bought in 1976 33 1/2" wide 18 3/4 deep and38 7/8" high also a matco top 33 1/2 wide 18 1/2 deep and19 3/4" high with a stack on side box with 1 shelf also an unknown brand side box with 7 drawers.

I had 4 Waterloo single banks for 15yrs. Towards the end they were so packed I couldn't open the drawers and 4 boxes was too much. 3yrs ago I picked up my 44" and 56" snap on boxes...I mean harbor freight.

I moved away from my mechanic dad in 2000, and I no longer had use of his shop or tools. So one day I had to change my alternator, and **** I had no tools. Instead of dropping a Ben Franklin on the job at a shop, I went to Sears and bought a 70 piece or so set of mechanic's tools and a 3 drawer red CM portable box. Still have it all.

I'm still using a Craftsman box that my Dad bought when he got home from the Korean War (conflict) in 1953. So, that makes it about 60-years old.

My dad bought his Snap On top chest and roll cab in 1954 to replace his original box that was lost in a fire. He used that box daily until he retired in 1975,and used it at home after that. He also had a Kennedy machinists box that he bought in Alaska during W.W.II. Ken.

The box with the engine on it I picked up used with the top chest and full of tools, from a pawn shop in N.C. when I was stationed at Ft. Bragg in 79. I gave the chest to my oldest Son a few years ago.

The combo behind it I bought new in 94, and my box at work I bought new in 2003.

Bought new November 2013. Build date of June 2013.

Had one other toolbox before this one for eight years that my dad bought for me with part of his work bonus after I had started my first service technician job at the dealership right after high school. Out grew that. Hopefully this will be my last toolbox with the exception of maybe a side cabinet and very small top later on down the road.

Thanks, fellas. Kool_boy you might not like to know that I paid $500 for all the boxes without the newer intermediates. There's another lower, not pictured, as well.

I do have a little room left but, otherwise, they're pretty much full. I'm probably at 75%. So, I've got a little real estate left.
