How to clean PVC pipe

I am cutting some Sch. 40 3/4" PVC water pipe to make a quilt display stand. What can I use to remove the marking on the pipe without melting it?

Try Some very fine Scotchbrite, maybe the white stuff. Otherwise there are lots of spray paints made for plastic that work quite well.

Why not try a little bit of pvc pipe cleaner & then wipe it w/ something or try acetone.

I've used regular lacquer thinner on a rag. The ink comes right off.

Try denatured alcohol, maybe it won't melt the plastic.

But sanding, good primer, and a top coat will likely make a better finish over all.

Thanks for the replies. The way I made the stand all the markings are either covered or not visible from the front.

I just used some denatured alcohol to clean sharpie off of PVC this week. Worked great. Didn't seem to affect the sheen of the PVC.

Won't 3/4 pvc bend under the weight of a quilt? Why not use hardwood dowels?

I accidentally got some engine degreaser on PVC pipe and it took the writing off and left the surface of the pipe undamaged.
