Hi Guys-

So I am trying to do a Headgasket on my 1994 Accord EX F22B1 because of overheating issues.

Long story short, I am unable to pull the head and do Headgasket because of '1' Damn bolt.

I am drilling on the bolt right now with a Milwaukee drill bit and used engine motor oil as a cutting oil.

I am kind stuck now, not sure how to completely remove the head of the bolt, so I can pull the head?

Please have a look on the pictures and advice, I am kinda stump now. Because if I try to drill by using 9/16', it's not removing anything and seem like bolt head is not budging.

Thanks in advance for all of your help and advice.

I would have drilled down the center of the bolt with a smaller bit to get a good pilot hole going. Then you just work up until you get to the same size as the bolt and the head comes right off, you just need to be careful. If you end up enlarging the very top of the hole no big deal.

Just as Purple said, slow and easy with as little pressure to cut, last thing you need is to break a drill bit off. use a cutting type fluid it will go smoother, just remember to not rush it or put to much pressure on it.

Remember, you just need to remove the head of the bolt. Once you drill through enough for the head to come off you can slide the Cylinder Head up over the remaining stud.

Also, I don't know what you're using for a socket but replace it with something good before you reinstall the head.

That's what I would do, remove the head of the bolt and take the head off. Do you have an air compressor and die grinder ? Get a good carbide bit and grind that thing off.

stuck head bolt?

screw drilling.....you remove the head of the bolt, then what are you going to do????? use ViseGrips?

i takes 3 hands and:
and a box end wrench that fits the bolt
a ~4" long steel punch that fits inside the wrench
a pair of ViseGrips to hold the punch
a 4 lb single jack:bounce:

hold the punch with the ViceGrips on the head of the bolt
have the 3rd hand torque the bolt
deliver a blow with the single jack to the punch

you think an impact screwdriver and a 16 oz brass hammer works????

try a single jack and a punch with torque...... hey, i have a 3/4" Swench wrench.....it will break the 36mm axle nut on a VW by tightening it:wtf::wtf::wtf:

Had the same thing happen on a 16 valve Geo Tracker just keep drilling but I used a smaller bit for example if the head bolt is 3/8 use a 7/16 that way as soon as you get to the stem your home free with no damage to the head

Use a stud remover once the bolt head is drilled off, once the head is off install the stud remover and a ratchet and screw it out

Not sure if you have access to a welder, But you get a good size open lug nut, put the weld in the center of the nut and try breaking it loose that way. If the car overheated into the red on the temp gauge, there's a good chance the head is warped, and you'll need a new one or to have it flattened at a machine shop, but then you run the risk of the cam bores not be true.

Single jack - never heard that term before.
Turns out it's another name for a drilling hammer.
Learned somethin' new today.

it was my Grandfather's, don't use it very often.....but when you need to 'up the ante'
out comes the single jack:thumbup:

in this headbolt situation a single jack will literally compress the bolt enough to relax the threads/break the rust so it can be undone

kind of like a super impact screwdriver, God's gift to mechanics

Emmit Hoyl drilling a 3/4" hole 7 11/16" deep in 5 minutes in granite gneiss, thats as hard as it gets

watch bw77's link.....84 strikes a minute for 10 minutes.....try it with a 16oz hammer for 5 minutes:bowdown:
