Here's a pretty nice example of a tool I haven't seen previously. Looks like the patent alludes to a "screw holding screwdriver" It features a spring loaded shaft that travels about 5/8" in total. Hard to tell if it were ever magnetized.

Here is mine. It is 5.5 inches overall length.

Stamping on handle says:
Hunter M5 - Los Angeles 23. Cal - U.S.A.PAT. 2324153

It works great. Second photo shows the tip in two positions. Also an advertisement from a 1953 Popular Mechanics magazine.

Wow, Thanks to all as usual. I didn't notice that the centermost part of the tip shifts to build a friction hold. That's cool!
