So I bought these in an auction thinking they were drill bits. Nope, all are solid.

What is it?

Also got a set of “Temu” drill bits. Cutest little set of drill bits ever!

I used to use those to make half round single edge drill bits. I discovered that they will drill dead straight through wood. I have a friend that makes high-end guitars. On the solid body electric guitars, regular drill bits wander a lot going through the 2" of wood, so it looks terrible on the back of the guitar. The half round drill bits don't wander at all. Very tricky to grind away half of the diameter without it warping, though. There are commercially available half round bits, but not in long lengths.

Drill blanks can be used for set up for drilling operations,
Or for gauging hole size,
Or for making specialty cutters and tooling.
They’re a standard item found in industrial tooling catalogs, and produced by major drill bit manufacturers.

Is there a point on the bottom end? If so, transfer punch.
you know, I've struggeled with a useful way to store my set of transfer punches, which came in a roll, that works fine, except you have to find a 3' side section to unroll it...
this is so ****** obvious now that I've been hit over the head with it. I'll have to see if mine are the right lengths to work in an index. (I think the small ones might be too long.) Thanks.

Mine are in a cheap plastic blow mold case right now. I've got a Huot stand I was going to use that has all the fractions just pointing up in the air

My daughter gave me back an old rectangular Craftsman index, but I think it only goes to 3/8". I think I can unfold the bit stop on the bottom to get long ones in there

oh, if they fit, I'll buy an index. A huot, even. One of the insane things about the roll they're in is that they're not in order. They mostly are, but there are some weird swaps. it probably makes it roll better, but it's annoying. An index, which can be out somewhere, instead of in a drawer, will make using them pleasant.

Well, this plan may not have been quite as cool as I thought. My transfer punch set goes up to 17/32, the Huot only goes to 1/2". So while most of it looks great, just tossing the one in loose, or punching a 17/32" hole in the front right corner are my two options, with keeping the status quo a third. My current stand isn't as cheap as I thought, must be the one I bought for a friend that was so bad.

Edit: I was chatting with him about this today, and he already has his set in a Huot, but he is without the 17/32

Used for many things including centering a drill press or mill to an existing hole, aligning two or more parts that have holes in them....etc
