Husky 60 gallon question

So I bought a husky 60 gallon single stage last week and finally got around to hooking it up today. Went through the whole break in process and then closed the valve and let it fill up. It took 6 minutes and 20 seconds which I thought was adequate. Overall i am pleased but did think it was a little louder than i expected. I do have a question though. It's max 150 psi but did not shut off until it got to 165. Is that normal? I was starting to worry that it wouldn't shut off at all.

I don't think mine goes that high. It cuts off at around 130 I believe. Also takes mine almost five minutes exactly to fill up. But obviously it's not going as high as yours. I don't consider it that loud.

Mine shuts off at 135psi. What is on your paperwork? It sounds like your pressure switch is wrong.

How do I test the pressure switch? It definitely didn't sound right. It sounded like the relief valve is what shut it down not the switch.

If it is like most pressure switches, they are adjustable. Look at you owners manual and see if you can adjust it.

Have you verified the pressure with a second pressure gauge?

If so yours is just fine, dont mess with the pressure switch.

No just the gauge that came on the tank right now. All I had connected was a valve and it was closed. I have a regulator with a gauge on it that i havent installed yet but that just sets the outgoing pressure right?

Is it an oil-less compressor?... There pretty noisy. You can adjust the cut off pressure,If it cut off earlier it wouldn't take near as long to shut off.

Dirtroad, looks like the same compressor I have. What pressure does yours cut out at? The manual doesn't say anything about what it cuts out at, just that it does. It says 155 max on the nameplate details in the manual but that's the only place it mentions pressure. Everything else sounds generic.

It seems to cut out at around 160-165 but then settles to 150-155.

The gauge is a little suspect, not a big deal, they are operating normaly.

Yeah it did the same thing. Cut out at 165 and then settled back to about 155. Maybe I just worry too much but that's the kind of day I've had.

Watch this video, it tell you how to do it. You have a Condor style switch. Just set it to cut in at 110psi and cut out around 140 and you'll be good.

Ya your compressor is fine, dont mess with it, especially the switch.

I have two, they both shut off at 130, being I do not have any tools that require a higher pressure, I'll leave them at 130. compared to my old oiless coleman these are pretty quiet, even when both are running

As far as the noise goes I have it in a closet and I think the noise was due more to echo than anything else. The closet has plenty of ventilation out the backside as it opens to a bigger closet but the sound was just echoing off the walls. I think it will be fine once I get the doors on the closet.

You must not have the same compressor that we have. Ours is a max of 155psi.

I dont think its loud at all. Of course i had been using a 33 gallon oiless for 10 years so anything is going to be quieter than that lol

Would there be something wrong with mine making it louder than normal? I don't have anything to compare it to so maybe it's just me. I have a small 3 gallon dewalt oil-less and it's no quieter than that one and I really expected it to be.

Do you have an iphone or anything like that?
If you do you can download a decibel meter app and take a measurement from 6ft and i can do the same then we can compare numbers.

Im not sure that will work well because of other variables involved.

Is it still on the original pallet, if so putting some isolation pads under the feet make a huge difference in the noise.

I'll try the decibel app tomorrow night. I'll be out there working. I'll measure it 6ft out in front like you said and then post again.
It is still on the pallet right now. I wanted to make sure it worked before I bothered taking it off the pallet. That may have something to do with it too.

Keep in mind our numbers may be quit different because of placement, size of shop, finishing of the walls etc. All that stuff changes the echo.

Measured today with one iPhone app and two iPad apps and they all showed around 88 dB. It also wasn't as loud as I remember so I really think it's fine.

I think the difference is where I have it. It's really not that bad and I think when I get the front door on that closet this week it will be a lot better. Thanks for following up on that.

Its LOUD because it doesnt have any sort of muffler on it. I put two on mine yesterday and it quieted it down a whole bunch !!! Once I anchor it to the the floor it will become a little bit quieter.

For comparison to other compressors, measure dba at 2' away and 3' of the ground. If you get much below 80 I would question the accuracy of the meter.
