Husky Compressor Binding

I have a 5hp Husky compressor that was leaking oil out of the plate shown in the following drawing. I replaced the seals, went to turn it on and the electric motor could not turn the motor 360 degrees.

IT WAS RUNNING FINE BEFORE I TOUCHED IT!!!

I can turn the crank 360 degrees manually. During a full revolution I can feel a slight drag and even hear a slight rubbing sound. I don't have to turn it very hard either. The drag is enough to stop the electric motor.

What could I have done wrong?

I tried to reinstall the plate several times and get the same result, OF COURSE. I obvously messed something up with the crank.

Any ideas???

You say you can turn the pump over by hand with little trouble, right? If this is the case, the motor should be able to spin the thing with no problem. Does it spin then come to an abrupt stop, or with a loud noise? Did you only remove the front bearing holder and seal, or did you disassemble the pump further? If you pulled the crankshaft out of the case while removing the bearing/seal retainer, you could have dislodged the connecting rods from the crankshaft (they actually slide into place rather than having rod bearing caps, the rods are solid on both ends). This can cause problems and binding. Can you spin the whole drivetrain, the pump, the motor and the belt with minimal effort? You might have the belt too tight for one. Try starting the motor with the belt off, see if it starts without hesitating. If it takes a moment to spin up,you could have starting cap or switch issues.

Yes, the electric motor spins fine when the belt is disconnected.

Does it spin then come to an abrupt stop, or with a loud noise? Just an abrupt stop when the electric motor is hooked up. No loud noise. I can hear a quiet rubbing sound coming from the pump.

I BET THAT IS WHAT I DID!!! The crank did move out of the pump a little.

Is there an easy way to reset the rods?

Thanks for the help...
