Husky tool chest

I dont know if this is the right place to post this but does anybody know if the husky 27" 6 drawer tool cabinet is any good i have the 26" 6 drawer top chest i just dont know how good the bottom is if you have any info or suggestions they will be much appreciated.

I used to own a husky box and was happy with it for the price point. If you are happy with the top box quality, I would go ahead and get the bottom to match. You won't find much better for the price range

I'm happy with the top so i may get the bottom but i was also looking at the kobalt ones from lowes

Hi check out this link to the one people really liked lately. The Craftsman and later Husky ones are almost identical. Was a great deal for 6 drawer bottom tall 27" chest at $130 on the Sears or $100 on the Husky, assembled in USA by Waterloo on these particular ones (not all are). I got one of both now. 50 pound drawers, so not quite "heavy duty" 75 or 100 pound ratings, but "heavy duty" otherwise. Good for homeowner uses. Their big 16" deep top cabinet in Husky that went with this for $70 was a super deal too.- Paul

Ok. Well if have a harbor freight near by, they have the whole 26" stack on special right now for $319+tax. Not knock on the husky you currently own, but they would be a little durable. Plus, you could sell the top you currently have and just a bout break even.

OR-OR

They are having the 44" bottom on sale this weekend for $349.99. Both boxes from there are very good boxes.

But, idk if I over extended your budget of if you even have a harbor freight near by. But.just a few suggestions..

I have the Husky 4 drawer top chest and 2 drawer / 2 door bottom cabinet. I like them. In the big bottom cavity, I put a fitted hardboard bottom in topped by a sheet of printer's blanket (about 3/16" thick rubber & canvas) in case I was ever less than careful with larger tools.

I bought the exact chest you are looking at about a month ago and am very pleased with it. Constructed very well and when unboxed no dents or dings. Drawers seem to have very little slop in them I have the craftsman 5 drawer that is supposed to be same quality and the craftsman is only half the box that the husky is. Hope this helps.

A bit thin. If the weight requirements (per drawer) are okay then it's probably okay for you but you gotta be careful with them. If they're 25 pound drawers only put 20 pounds in there; you know what I mean?

It's comparable to craftsman consumer grade stuff. Most people will not have issues with them unless they overload. Don't get anything without ball bearings though, oh God those ones without ball bearings are the worst. Might as well just put all your tools in beer boxes so you don't have to **** around with the drawers everytime you need to grab something.

I wouldn't drive two hours round trip to Harbor Freight for one of their tool boxes. I'd pay them $300 or whatever it is to deliver eight of them, but wouldn't drive there. It's an economy of scale thing.

Need to apologize, seems I've stolen the printer's blanket for other purposes. First pic shows the wire handle I added to the top box lid, small diameter washers outside and epoxied large diameter washers on the inside. Second pic is how the hardboard is cut and fitted in for an interference fit, rough side up for friction. Third pic is what's left of that blanket, and it's 3/32" not 3/16", but it's nice and stiff with the laminated canvas backing. I'll bet you could ask a local offset printer if they have some old blankets you could have (they have to be replaced periodically). Just makes for less worrying about denting and scratching the bottom cab floor when putting tools away. Last pic is some 1/2" lauan-veneered lumbercore between the two boxes that I had laying around.

Don't know if this will help you or not, but I have an older (2005) Husky 7 drawer cabinet that looks like the older brother to the one you posted a link to. Made in Canada- don't know if that has changed or not, and mine is the PRO version.

If they are comparable, then it is a nice match to the top chest (I have that as well). I have only two complaints with the box that I have. First, the drawer stops at the back of each drawer are made of plastic and have a tendency to break after a while. I couldn't figure out what the weird-shaped pink plastic things were that kept falling out of it every so often. Does not impact function though, still closes and locks just fine.

Second, they are a little thin when it comes to construction. I assume you know what you are getting into as it lists the drawer capacity as 50lb. Don't know if it is different for my pro model, but there is significant lateral flex in the drawers if you remove them when loaded. They are solid when on the rails, but can flex enough on removal to the point where it takes significant effort to line the drawer back onto the rails for reinstallation. Only a factor if you remove the drawers of course, which I have to in order to move frequently.

I have been looking to upgrade as I have outgrown my setup, and admit that I have checked out the Harbor Freight 44, and from my observation, the HF uses much thicker stock than my Husky.

I saw a larger version for sale a few months ago when another GJ'ler posted about it, I didn't post favorably about it due to the flimsiness...at least for my needs. All around, the Husky is adequate but has its limitations. As long as you know what they are and it meets your requirements (and price point is nice which is what sold me when I bought it), then proceed!
