My 1997 Husqvarna 41 is leaking oil. I replaced the oil delivery tube and the pump twice thinking that was the leak, and its still leaking. I took the bar off today, and the delivery tube look dry, and the bottom of the saw is soaked with oil.

I know this is a 20 year old chain saw but its only seen home use, still has good compression, and other than carburetor kits its has been running great.

Anyone know if these saws had a gasket or O ring in sealing the oil reservoir that may have failed or is the failure probably a crack or separation of the plastic tank casting? It is a mess when I store it, and have to store the saw on a pan.

I keep thinking of tossing it and switching to a $200 Echo.

Or has anyone tried one of the Milwaukee M18 chain saws?

A cheap alum baking pan will catch the oil; let me know if you find a remedy. The saw is consistently leaky stored face up, normal or nose down, so I'm thinking atmospheric pressure is pushing oil through the pump circuit. Replace because of an oil leak? Can't justify it here.

Could be cracked tank, failed tank seam, worn oil pump, oiler hose not seated.. also could be nothing but seems like alot.

Are you having the whole oil tank leak out like the tank is empty or just a pool of oil?
All saws leave a bubble from what's on the chain and bar in use and it takes some time to work it's way down the bar and off the saw so lots of people think its leaking...plus a little oil looks like a.lot.
If you changed the connector hose it's possible that the saw was not oilinh properly before and not it is causing more oil to drain off the bar.

In any case, unless the tank is draining out there is no actual problem with the saw.
