Hydraulic Test Kit

My D3 dozer has some steering issues and need to find a hydraulic test kit which will work. I have two fittings which are STOR Boss fittings (7/16-20 and 9/16-18). Some of the kits found are 9000 psi others 8K psi. Currently have gauges for 400 and 2000 and the D3 does not use that high of pressures.

Pulled one of the fittings and thought about drill and tap for 1/8 NPT but after measuring, figure this would be a no-go due to how much side wall would be left once tapped.

Found kits from under 100 (china) to over $2K. Like good tools but cannot justify spending 2K for this job. Good thing with the kit is it will have quick connect for gauge

Anyone have any suggestions on kits?

take the fittings to a hyd supply place, they can probably find an adapter to male -3 (or -4) JIC

have a hose made and buy a gauge in the pressure range you need

ive been wrenching on const eq for over 30 years....

you may try posting over at the heavy eq forums someone may be able to give you a PN for an adapter...

Try surplus center for fittings & gauges, they may have something that'll work.

I have bought from this ebay seller, reasonable for test kit pieces. The high pressure hose I bought was actually made in Germany, I assume assembled (crimped fittings on) in china.

Thanks, I'm also a member on HEF and have posted over there on my dozer thread. Went to Fastenal and they had nothing for me, and have sice found some places which sell individual fittings. I have a problem figuring out the newer fittings. I'm use to inverted flare, AN and NPT but this STOR boss is new to me

O ring boss is the same thread as JIC. Go to a hydraulic shop, ask for an ORB to JIC adapter, then buy an in-line JIC FITTING, male on one end female on the other, that has a port to screw a gauge into

Also, check E Bay, I bought a military surplus hydraulic test kit in a nice Pelican case. Wasn’t cheap, but I thought it was reasonable, around $350 if you can justify that much. Just a thought

Your local cat dealer will have test ports adapters gauges and hoses for not too bad. The gauges are very much quality. As a heavy equipment mechanic I do not use a kit I have built my assortment up piece by piece

I went to Whayne CAT in Somerset an they had nothing. The Mechanic on the service truck offered to let me borrow some stuff to test, and about blew me away. I was very thankful for the offer but passed because I live to far away and didn't want to have to rush back to get it back to him

I have always built my own test gauges. On IH tractors there is a 3/8-24 ORB plug for setting PTO pressure.

Went to a hydraulic place, and got a ORB to male JIC adapter and a hose made with a swivel JIC female on one end and standard pipe thread with a female quick coupler on the other. I can use various pressure gauges on the same hose

Probably won't run into it on a older D3 but some hydrostatic drive lines put out over 5000 psi. You need good hoses and a 10,000 psi guage for that stuff
