40+ posts on the PVC war so far, really? Didn't we just get done with one of these threads??? :headscrat

Anyway, I've got a question for all you rocket surgeons; is it okay if I used an old garden hose to plumb the gas line for the wife's new dryer? I didn't want to spend that much on the flex at HD...

What is the price difference between:

Black Pipe:

Pex for air:

Pvc exploision:

I would never use PVC, imagine how you would feel not "IF" but "WHEN" it blows and blinds or kills somebody? How would you explain it to the persons relative? I would reccomend to go ahead and write something up atleast 1 full sheet. This way it is done while you have a somewhat clear head, and you can better choose the words that abound you for the excuse of, what, you have done to this family.

Thanks, JASTECH & Son

No Judge, I couldn't possibly be liable for child support of this woman's offspring.

I used protection. Granted condoms were $1 and I didn't want to waste all that money, but I used a rubber band, and since it was only one drunken weekend, no way I'm the father of her child.

What DNA test... :Twitch:

so if what I'm reading is what I'm thinking I'm reading... PVC for shop = no PVC for house = Yes, with a household compressor.

on that note, we have used 40 in our shop for over 20 years, it goes along the ceiling and drops down to work stations, there are a few drip dryers but that's it. We've only had damage done twice to the system, once was an over pressure blow out on a section that had a defect, spliced in a new section and it lasted another 8 years until a tornado took the shop. Working on getting the insurance to buy my new compressor before i re plumb everything, but it will probably be in pvc again.

I have no idea how you got that from any of this... :wtf:
Compressed air = NO PVC

Air lines must be run with materials certified by the manufacturer for compressed air/gas use. PVC ain't it...

I just had a pvc pipe blow, I'm a believer now! Sure was glad I wasn't near it. I don't use air much or have far to go, so I'm running the hose to the compressor.

How many of you guys have actually busted a PVC line under air pressure? Everybody seems to think they explode. I've managed to bust two by hitting them really hard with a piece of metal. They do make a lot of noise from the air rushing out but that's about it. They split length wise down the pipe.

I've seen PVC split lengthwise partially from an end, but I've also seen it almost completely shattered. My hydraulics/pneumatics prof liked to show us real world examples he had seen during his career (retired from industry to teach).

As for PVC fracturing, it depends on how its struck. A radiating fracture leads to a PVC shrap-fest whereas a linear fracture might result in a split reminiscent of an overcooked hotdog. With that said, I've seen an end-cap failure that looked almost like an apple peeling.

I'm not positive, but I think the way pvc breaks may be related to it's age.

When it's new, it seems to be more flexible and resilient. But I had a 10' piece of 4" dia. that was outside for about 4 years (not in the sun) and it shattered easily when I hit it with a hammer.

actually have pvc running air lines are work. i try to get them to replace it but no go. it does break in to a few pieces when the line goes. the back lash also cracks the adjacent area pipes. it has blown out twice, they have not gotten the idea yet.

Go to this link. Either print it out and give it to them or send it to them anonymously through the mail. When they see what kind of fines they may have to pay, they may pay attention.
