Yea, good tools can sure earn their "cost" at times. Cheap ones can sure get you hurt!
Example;
The mother-in-law called one day, asked the Wife, "is it normal for men to throw tools.." Wife answered "....uh, my husband doesn't throw his tools...".
I love my tools, and I'm not throwing no $30 wrench across the street!

That lady has been married 4 times, this was just another looser, druggie, alcoholic.

As to vise grips, I'm in the agreement above, if you need them, your doing something wrong. I have a set that I got as a present several years ago, and I can't think of one time where I have used them, in the past 15 years. Maybe the bearing Cups on U-Joints, but I think NOT, they don't work too well for that either!

Or "Hot Wrech" it (that's cutting torch to some folks!). I also have some of those "reverse" sockets that grip stripped nuts fairly well, so you can turn them off in reverse.

I try to ALWAYS use some type of glove, either nitrile, if its greasy, or goat-skin leather, which in my opinion is the longest lasting leather glove made. Stays softer longer, and surprisingly is the most abrasion resistant I've found to date.

When ever im using vise grips to do any work on a automobile i heat the ***** with the torch. Vise grips should never be used any other way.

I dont care what anybody says, including Snap-On, them aint no Snap On vise grips. LP series = low price. And quality.

Nope, great quality. I had a set of old Petersens that worked for years. The teeth were finally worn flat, and as I couldn't find any Petersens, I bought a set of new Vise Grips. I ripped all the teeth off the first time I used the floppy pieces of ****. I bought the Snap on Grip-on set, works great.

I later found a NOS pair of Petersen's (actually, about 15 of them) and bought them all...back to being happy again.

Generally I find the answer is keep throwing tools at the problem until one of them works.

gentlemen i know this wonderul site is a support group for tool lovers. i am ready to give up on tools. Well not tools in general just mine. ifter hours of wrists hurting hundreds of bllod blisters scrapes and abrasions i swear i feel i am ready to sell every tool i own.

so what do you do when you feel this way????

Ya know, sometimes it can be a real killer, or your out in the cold, or the dirt, or just anything. The problem is, the job just needs to be done, and there is nobody else to do it buy you. Aggravating and depressing all at the same time.

Find an understanding friend to give a hand, if you have one. We all encounter projects like this on occasion. If not at home, at work. Sometimes its a dirty job that no body else wants...and you got stuck with it. Other times, there just isn't anyone else.

We get through 'em, Good Luck.

Most new quality tool makers are embracing ergonomics. The answer is get better tools and use them smartly. Use tools for what they are intended to do. When in doubt, put a fridge stocked with beer in the garage.

Know what your talking about....

Example? Just did the wife's ******/filter last weekend, used a "premium" gasket, and the dang thing is dripping....well, there goes 7.4 quarts of ****** fluid, and I didn't take the time to install a compression style drain in it....so here comes the mess again.
My drain pan isn't big enough to catch all the fluid, all the way around the pan, so its slow going.

Called NAPA, they don't have many problems with that gasket, its a silicone warranted one. Oh well, just another job that needs doing.

If you're having a hard time, there is an easier tool out there, just have to buy it.

+1 i started out with a 150 piece craftsman set. things were such a PITA and a hassle. then i was exposed to the world of tools and realized having the right tool makes life soooo much easier. thats when the addiction started, and thats when working on cars etc, became more enjoyable.

i hit something with a sledgehammer.

or just say f*ck it, i quit, then take a little walk and cool off

or customize a tree with my s-10
