Best thing I ever did was to start running the bags in my vac... Being the tight *** i am, I scoffed at the idea of spending that much money on a damn bag!

I'll never NOT run a bag and filter in them again... I use it to vac out ash from a pellet smoker on occasion. I always dreaded it, because I would need a shower afterwards from all the airborne ash..

yeah, I still ***** about having to buy the bags, but no more than I use the shop vac, it's totally worth it to me.

Ridged missed an opportunity at naming its blower detachment line Mega Maid

https://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-...y-Vac-with-Detachable-Blower-HD1600/304795082

I actually put my hose on the exhaust and blow of tools and stuff all the time. The replacement Ridgid hoses have a clip to hold it on the inlet. The exhaust port also has a recess for that clip to keep it from blowing out.

Pro-tip: Ever notice how a shop vac blows dust the first second after a filter/bag change? After cleaning the filter/changing a bag connect the hose to both the in and out ports so on the first start the loose dust goes right back to where it belongs.

where does one fine a good brand/model of a "real dust extractor"?

Makita, bosch, festool, fein, hilti, dewalt, among others, all make high quality dust collectors.

Real HEPA, filter cleaners, tool activation, quiet, high quality hoses, etc.

I have a fairly new Shop Vac model series EAL and just went to rinse out the filter. It fell apart in my hands... What is a good replacement filter that can be rinsed out and reused? I had one in my old Craftsman that lasted for years being cleaned and reused.

So no filter just the bag?

definitely both. I've had times when my bag slipped off the fitting or ripped. although ripping isn't as much of a concern with the higher quality "HEPA" bags.

just today, I found my bag had slipped off. not sure how long it was that way, but I didn't notice until opening to check how full it was since I had a good quality filter on it.

Couldn't agree more. loud motors, cheap plastic hoses. Tippy. I've seen two shop vacs at the curb this week waiting for the garbage man to pick up.

I made this cart with a cyclone filter and a 60L drum. after I destroyed my last shopvac in rage cause the bag broke and clogged the filter , new filter cost more than the new vacuum cleaner.

I have a bag +filter in the vac but 99% of the dust stays in the drum

now I can't believe I wasted so much money on filters and bags.

I'm working on a similar setup for my router table. I picked up a new Dust Deputy w/bucket and Fein vac (same as in the pic) for $40 a few weeks ago and look forward to seeing how it performs. The Fein vac has adjustable power, made in Italy, and is roughly a million times quieter than your typical big box store Shop Vac. It can also turn on automatically with the router, but I'm afraid my circuit couldn't handle that inrush if both start at the same time.

The current Fein vacs are completely different than all the Fein vacs mentioned above. I have three of the older Fein vacs and won’t be buying any of the new square ones.

Another vote for the older Craftsmans. I have a 5 gal from the 80s and a much older 10 or 15 gal. Both very strong. The older one has the inlet on the top cover not the side. That lets me put a plastic garbage bag inside so I can tie it and remove it rather than having to dump it and get covered with dust. I always grab discarded hoses when I see them so I can connect them together. The hose on the one in my shop is about 20' long so I rarely have to move the vac.
