chipmunks that are making tunnels, etc. around my house, under the spare garage, retaining walls, etc...

What is your technique?

Poison, loud noises, shotgun, cats. Use in whatever order you desire.

My issue is squirrels, they drive the dog crazy. We have a fence that they run across the top teasing the dog. I've had to replace the screen door a few times now. Bought a pellet gun and got most of them.

I find chipmunks to be cute and playful. Their little holes don't bother me.

With carpenter ants, sugar ants, carpenter bees, and garden slugs absolutely assaulting me this year, chipmunks seem like good pals.

Why do their holes bother you? They don't eat parts of your buildings, like mice or rats or squirrels do.

I have the same urge quite frequently... Houston traffic will do that to ya.

Like others have mentioned... I'd sit out back and plick 'em off with a pellet gun. I've done that numerous times with pests.

Female cat.
One that has a litter before being spayed.
A "barn cat" used to being outside all night is perfect.
She has learned to hunt for her litter.
Cats hunt at night and sleep duering the day.
That is something people that don't like them do not understand.
Depending on her personalty she may bring home some "presents" for you.

The "Judge" is almost worthless on squirrels unless you are real close range. My buddy has one, those 410 shells look tougher than they really are in a snubby.

It's gonna be a Walther P-22 for me to take care of squirrels around here.

My dad bought a high velocity .22 air rifle several years ago. Single pump action and will easily drop a squirrel.

We use Snap traps we bought at Lowe's. Baited with peanut butter and bird seed. (seed from the bird feeder they were getting into). Last year we killed 7 chippers and 1 rat.

Have-a-heart traps work great. Then you can take them for a ride and release them.

I think killing them would solve the problem... I don't feel like driving them to a new home.

I don't live there. It's my Parent's and I store things there.

We have "Bob" the cat and he pretty much takes care of the chip monks and mice. But he likes to bring them, not only home but he brings them into the house through the "dog door". They are not always dead and we have great "fun" trying to catch them again. Actually my wife and I have gotten to be pretty good at hearding them out the door.

Yep, we have a yard cat so up and next thing we know she has a swollen stomach. Every day we would find a dead mouse under the carport. Then it was a good size rabbit. Three weeks after she had her litter, I walked in the garage where she kept her babies and there was freaking blood every where. after a few minute search, I found another rabbit. Head was missing and I am not sure what happened to the head???

My cellar has a dirt floor and they burrowed down below the stone foundation and came in the cellar. I've resorted to a 5 gal. pail 1/2 full of water, sprinkle sunflower seeds on top of the water and a board ramp up to it. 9 have taken the final plunge so far.

I have been battling woodchucks for some time with traps, a .22 or my favorite - the Gamo Varmint Hunter.
Life is much easier now that I have started using these:

Locate all of their holes - there will usually be two or three. Drop 2 sticks into each hole and fill it back in with dirt. Every once in a while a hole will be reopened. In those cases, I drop 4 sticks in!

Cats like rabbit head believe it or not. Tom our outside cat that we had would hunt rabbits sometimes fullsize. The first thing to go was the head, skull and all.

Vist the flea market and buy a few of the old style small game traps to place in the entrance to the holes.

Or if you want the fun way, this is a really good excuse to build a .22 to fit you.

If you don't have pets that have access to the cellar...use antifreeze. It preserves the pests so theres no smell. Caught 15 mice in one winter with that setup...

I used a Hart trap and tried to drive them 3+ miles away....they just came back!

I then opted to use the trap and what I called the "Ford Farewell" (due to me not wanting to tell my young kids I was gassing them). They thought I was still driving them to a new spot in the F150, instead I put the trap in a garbage bag and hooked it to the exhaust, took about 2 minutes.

The moles I have are a bigger burrowing problem then the cute chipmunks running about my place. The rabbits are little bit of an issue as well as they eat the tender petals off my lilies and I do have a raccoon that's been getting into the garbage Everything likes my yard as I have no pets to deter them. They are all so cute, expect for the moles, so I guess they can hang out here till they do real damage.

Yeah, raccoons are real cute -- not. They are vicious as hell and are big carriers of rabies. Wait until the raccoon uses his claws to get in someplace you don't want it to be. I'd waste no time in shooting a ****.

My problem at my holiday home in france is fat dormice in the roof, things are the size of a squirrel and look very similar, they only eat fruit and seeds but they like all rodents like to gnaw on stuff, they've even eaten through the drywall ceiling into the house a couple of times. I use poison and rat traps to keep the numbers down and willl eventyully block up the currently open eaves to stop them getting in.

I had problems last winter with chipmunks nesting in amongst the injectors on my diesel tractor. Some strategically placed glue traps (the large type from the farm supply stores) worked like a charm! YMMV.

Well, I once had a similar problem and was prohibited by the love of my life from killing the poor things. It being right where she could see what was going on I did the have a hert thing. With rodents, I do not have a heart and they were not co-operating in any case. She had to leave for the better part of a day so I went up to the shed, got my big cutting torch rig, mounted the largest rose-bud tip I had; got the flame balanced just so, snuffed the flame and buried the tip in one of the holes. I then went into the house to get a lb of gunpowder for fuse and ran that across the driveway, let'er cook for a while. Touched that fuse off and man, i had flames coming out of the ground all around me. I was a lucky idiot that day, as nothing burned down. Some days later my wife was commenting how the traps must have scared the critters off. Yes dear! It was really good:D

I used a Hart trap and tried to drive them 3+ miles away....they just came back!

I heard you need to take them at least 5 miles.

I caught a squirrel in a Hav-A-Hart. I was about to see if Sandy the Squirrel could really swim. When my neighbor and his daughter came over. She was six and wanted to know why I was going to bath the squirrel. I told her they are happier when they are clean. Then the guilt set in so dad and I put Sandy in the truck and took to her to a park. Where she could frolic with other squirrels. I opened the trap and the squirrel ran right into the street...
I really felt bad for the lady that flattened Sandy.

Hey... I let the squirrel go.

Autumn which is the dog in my Avatar considers the backyard hers and hurts with my other Malinois which I don’t appreciate, mostly rabbits. She can’t figure out birds and chasing them from the middle of the yard and expected them to land at the back fence like the arc of a ball.

I used to have possums and they would play dead after the dogs found them and I would just box them up and relocate them. I am not in killing amimald unless that is the only choice.
