I noticed that a thread was pulled from the GJ recently. It was one I had participated in as late as Saturday morning and did notice the banter had gotten a bit sketchy, it was about a person who had purchased a Snap On tool box and was asking options bout the defects (missed paint, missing rivet, poor trim on a logo, etc.). Did that in-fact get pulled, and are there some "lessons learned" for all of us that were either watching or participating in the banter? It might be instruction and a good set of rules of thumb for us all to abide by if those threads could have a summary story about why it was pulled (no detail, generalities would be good).

I try very hard to not be controversial, keep my tone productive and help as much as I am capable of. Sometimes I stick my neck out a bit and offer some advice, but always with an air of "trying to help".

Maybe there is a place on the GJ where these are chronicled, but I've not found it.

Thanks for keeping GJ civil...

Dennis

I wasn't sure which thread you were talking about but by going back through your posts, I found it. It was dumped by a member of the staff. I skimmed through a few pages and it looked like it turned into a bitchfest/******* match with some personal swipes taken.

When threads are locked/deleted, generally, you're not going to get an explanation, nor is there a place to find them or why they disappeared.

Thanks Eric..

It seems that it would be good for something about "this thread has been pulled by the staff" or whatever would be enough for people who are self conscious..to take pause and pull back on the non GJ like behavior.. I do my best to try to ride a productive, non combative, instructive line..regardless of the negative banter..

Again, thanks for taking a look.

Just saw the thread "Re: Shop break in attempt " had a flashing closed at the bottom.. reading it this evening it was getting a bit sketchy too.. So apparently the folks in charge are looking to keep a close rein on the bad non GJ banter.. Good I say..

Some times it is easier just to close or remove a topic than have multiple new topics (and PM's) about why it was closed. If a topic is deleted or closed just understand it was dealt with that way because it went off topic. Moderators on the forum are here for the same reason as members we just want to enjoy what the forum is about but when a topic gets out of hand it is simply dealt with.

Thanks for that explanation. I appreciate the hard work it takes as a moderator to keep the GJ productive and civil, and truly appreciate the time it takes to do that.
