Anyone have any stories lately?
Went to my local Sears store (Silverdale, WA) recently to exchange a stripped Phillips screwdriver AND see if their toolboxes really were as bad as everyone here claims. (They were, maybe worse)
Sears didn't have a single 6" #2 Phillips screwdriver in stock! Had to ship me a replacement instead, I turned over one of the old chrome finish red and blue ones and three weeks later rec'd a Chinese POS with a squirmy rubber handle, black oxide finish. Looks like something made for Harbor Freight but branded for Sears. And, now I don't have the one that matches the rest of my Craftsman stuff to exchange!
As for the store visit: the only thing worse than the quality of the tool storage was the customer service. I was in the store for almost an hour, never did encounter an employee while looking at toolboxes, only got help when I stood in line at the register for 15 minutes with the screwdriver in my hand after scouring the store for a replacement on my own.....
No wonder this company is circling the drain.
FWIW, I see ACE is now selling Craftsman tools- anyone want to wager that's who ends up with the brand when Fast Eddie Lampert's Sears Holdings fire sale is over?
