Well, I finally got started on my 32x48' timberframe shop this week. We've had a fair amount of snow and a late spring that has kind of delayed our start, but now we are underway!
We set concrete tapered piers last fall. They are set down four feet, spaced at 12 ft for the side walls. We didnt get a chance to do the dirt work but will do that after the two side walls and roof are up. The front and back piers will be poured in place, when the ground thaws enough. A 6" slab will be poured then too.
The rafter trusses are massive, and they are complete at my contractors wood lot. They are Douglas Fir along with the 6x12 wall posts.
Inside will be well insulated and sheet rocked but all the timbers will be visible. Heat will be a toyo diesel stove, and possibly a coal stove down the road. There will be a 12 ft deep loft across the back.
Electric will all be done through conduit.

Outside will be metal siding.
Two 12x12' (or 11') garage doors, whichever fits best with the trusses inside, haven't figured that out yet.
Possibly a 12' shed Lean-to the length of one side.
Shop will be used for working on and storing trucks, tractor, four-wheelers, snow machine etc. along with metal work/fab and such.
Hoping to have it closed in by June 1st, then I gotta go to work for 3 months (commercial fisherman) and finish up in the fall. Pic is mowing the brush on the old Kubota.

Temp today is 32. A few days ago we were working with a windchill around 5. It's actually not bad for working, but I can't wait for the snow and ice to be gone. I'm trying to get our travel trailer moved out of the way and its still frozen to the ground. With all the salt and chipping ice maybe it will move today.
It is a lot of fun, never built a timber frame before. Kind of nerve racking raising the walls with the monkey jacks, but its gone smoothly so far..
The 5 trusses each weigh 1600 lbs so that should be fun. Of course we will use a boom truck.
Hopefully the road load limits don't screw us getting them out here.

When it thaws, the mud is terrible. Getting bad now in the afternoons. Getting up in the 40's now.
We got the trusses on today. It's starting to take shape.
This is yesterday.

Roger that!
Next step, continue framing the walls with 2x6"s and the roof between the trusses with 2x8"s, then hopefully the ground will thaw enough to do the dirt work, wont take much as its pretty level, just scrape off the organic layer, pour some piers for the front and back wall and then cement work... then front and back walls, siding, insulation etc.

How did you anchor your up-right posts to your concrete pilings. Could you take a photo as I would like to visually see your foundation approach to this great building . Thanks.

Mud sill is bolted to concrete piers with 3/4" all thread epoxied into piers with Simpson anchoring adhesive. 6x12" posts are held with these brackets. May make something more attractive out of 3/8" angle iron and through bolt later since they will be exposed inside. Used 4x6" angle to hold down trusses with lags and through bolts.

Thanks very much for taking the time to go outside and shoot a photo. I see what you have done and it gives me some ideas.

Nah, I don't mind the cold, I've lived up here all my life so I guess I'm used to it. When it gets up to near 40 like it has lately, it feels like a heat wave. I would hate to be working in 81 degrees. Also I like the peace and quiet and the scenery here just fine.

Also, we don't have to deal with permits, inspections, restrictions etc.(for a shop where I'm at).

That said, I hope the ground thaws soon and this damn snow melts. More snow in the forecast for Wednesday.
