Does anyone have a length comparison between Icon and Snap On semi deep?
:see:
These must be very new as no reviews yet online.... I wonder what the length is as semi-deeps can be slightly different. My Snap On semi-deep set is 1-5/8" Long and my Gearwrench mid-length set is 1-3/4" long... Still have only Mac or Snap On for 12 pt's as far as I am aware.

i bought a set of the sae ones this morning, they weren't even on the pegs yet, guy had to go get them from the back.

they are 1 3/8 long

There was this guy on Facebook dissing the Icon's that they were way thicker than A Snap On outside diameter. And that you WILL run into issued due to this!
I mic 'ed both of my 10mm's the Icon was only .007 larger than the SO.
. 007 kilometers larger? Jk

This is what HF needs to do IMHO. Instead of competing with everyone else on the normal deep and shallow socket sets start offering mid depths and stubbies where there are more limited offerings.

Guessing these are on par with Taiwan made Gearwrench and Carlyle. The knurling looks similar to Gearwrench... do wish someone was smart enough to put Koken/SK style knurling on their socketry.
Are you knocking GearWrench good sir?

This maybe a random comment, but PROTO now has semi-deeps, and the dimensions look pretty nice (ie thinwall).

The 21mm thinwall (27.4mm) is thinner than snap-on...and alot of other high end sockets.

3/8 Metric Sets

Edit: Looks like a whole family in other drive sizes.

Man for the price with the 25% coupon this is hard to beat.

But the addict in me wants the Koken semi deeps.

Dang, might have to go use a coupon and snag one of these tomorrow
Current coupons end the 9th
I'd jump on it quick as prices only getting worse and these semi deeps are proper nice design/manufacture product and price currently is great value with 20 or 25% off .

74330288 is the current any ICON item 20% off code, if store not friendly on multi item use take a friend or 2 .

How are these holding up to daily use?

I bought a set in April, but haven’t used them enough to review them yet.

I had the Carlyle ones for years… then I found about 2/3 of a Snap-on set (with the previous owner’s name engraved in them… which I hate…)… I wanted two complete sets, so I bought the ICON set. As I said… I haven’t used them enough for a real review.

Before I had real mid lengths, I had the SK sockets, that are just a little longer than Snap-on, up to 16mm.

I would, definitely, not mind if they released these in 1/2” and 1/4”.

(y) 2 good products, 56" series 2 was well worth snatching before they all gone over to series 3, hopefully price on them was good even before the coupon ...
Yeah after debating between the series 2 and 3 the quality just feels better on the series 2 so pulled the trigger on a 56”. Now to sell my 44

I've been procrastinating on getting the Series 2, as I've had numerous other projects consuming the budget. Would like to grab 2 44s before they're gone.
Also, every time I've looked for the metric semi-deeps at our local HF, they've been out of stock. Unlucky I guess the two ro three times I've been there since they started selling them.

That's exactly where I am at the moment. Built a new garage, doing some finish out (i.e. budget blowing).... realizing at the same time that the tool chests are overflowing.

Exactly! I sold a car, added 2. Went to clean and organize and went im just too full. Had been planning on a side box but the 56 made way more sense with the drawers. Didn’t help adding new sockets with all of these hf sales either

The reason they are thin wall, is because they are 12 point. I don't dislike 12 point sockets, but I can't stand 6 point combination wrenches.

I have the HF semi-deeps in metric, and I prefer them to my Gearwrench semi-deep SAE set.

I just picked up a set of semi deeps from HF and 14-17,19 are not chamfered at all on the hex end. I’ve got other Icon stuff and they’ve all been fine. Maybe it was a dud but these are going back.

Depends where you use it. I recall dodge minivan egr valve bolts would only work with my snap on sockets due to thickness

Weird. But the other sockets in the set are chamfered?

Did you take a pic by chance?

It’s the one thing I hate about Icon products is how they’re all locked down at the store… you can even really look into the packaging.

Didn't take pictures, but ya other sockets were chamfered normally 10,11,12,13,18. The nonchamfered sockets were exactly that, flat on the top noticeably off. The felt almost like bike fork sockets.

Agreed, next time I'm opening and icon stuff right in the parking lot.

I bought the SAE set today with 25% off coupon to compliment my metric Snap-On set. I was a little dissapointed at the lack of knurling on the SAE sets(shallow, semi-deep, and deep) while all the metric have knurling. I wonder what that is all about.
