Now I got many chargers, need to mount them somewhere to reclaim the bench space back. Looking for some good ideas. Please post some pictures and show how you do to yours...

I have an M12 charger mounted overhead. My bench is tucked in the back corner of the garage under the loft/shelf. The m12 battery snap into the charger to where it will not fall out. I just screwed the charger up under the shelf.

i've seen guys do a small shelf on around a 45 degree angle with a lip on the front edge, just big enough for the chargers. seems the way to go, easy access with out wasting space.

This might work for M12 charger. But I also have 18v Makita and Ridgid. The battery might be too heavy...

I made a French cleat tray that mounts to the side of a set of drawers I have hanging on the wall that I added clears to.

Added a cleat to the tray

and the tray locks to the side.

Because it has a cleat, I can move it to anywhere else in the shop that has cleats like the backsplash on the back of my bench.

Only catch is there needs to be outlets nearby but that's a given.

I like this idea....

Consider it "appropriated" for my own shop....

I know I am going vertical, maybe a peg board on the back of a door or side of a cabinet.

I've had the same questions. I wonder if there is a business opportunity here.

Most of the chargers I've seen have a key hole or two on the back for hanging. Has anyone ever seen a "keyhole" screw or bolt that you can screw into something down to a flange and then have the shaft with a second flange or head to hold a thing with the keyhole on? (like a charger or power strip or anything with a keyhole).

Maybe, but it is kind of tough to keep the cost low as people generally don't expect to pay too much for the application.

I mounted mine to my Gladiator Gearwall above my workbench.
Thanks, I might get some of those for different application.

Those french cleat tray are great! I might be considering to address the current problem I am running into - I ended up using the usual way to mount them on an extra space between the gladiator wall cabinet and the tool box. However, the Makita charger doesn't come with the mounting hole. :wtf: Now I need to figure out what to do with that one.

I keep one of my chargers on a shelf above my bench along with other small tools that I use on a regular basis. I keep another one in a DeWalt tool box along with my batteries. That makes it easy to take to them to where ever I need them.

I like the cabinet door. No extra money outside the screws, you can mount them inside & out (or put the power strip & cords inside to minimize mess)

I do like the french cleat, but if you decided to make your bench those few inches shorter, I wouldn't do it. Overhead cabinet doors are typically great for mounting stuff to keep out for the way and generally poorly utilized by me since I'm short. They way my garage is set up I couldn't 'waste' pegboard or other space for them. On past benches I've done them vertically down the front leg since the bench sticks out further than the legs.

I put them in the side locker of my toolbox, I wired an outlet in there. I can charge the batts out of sight and locked up when needed.

Maybe the MFGs just haven't put any thought into the chargers because it's not a big deal...aka our problem where to put them. It is odd that none of them have come up with some "command center" like thing that could be mounted somehow on the wall or something.

I found that the head of a drywall screw fits in that keyhole perfectly. I mounted mine on the back side of my cabinet door.

Btw. Have you seen the ryobi multi charger? I think it charges 8 batteries at once.

That's sweet. I had no idea anyone made a multi charger that handled more than a couple. Too bad all my stuff is dewalt or I'd get one.

6 at once on that Ryobi. Sears has a C3 that does 4 or 5 at once but I haven't seen it for sale in over a year.

The 6 port ryobi one doesnt charge all of them at once, its one at a time. But, its a smart charger and stops each battery from charging after its full, then moves to the next.

sorry I was thinking 'storing it on the charger to top up' when I typed that 6 at once. some guys swear by it, science be damned.

Personally I like several individual ones. I can charge batts simultaneously and they're easier to move where i want them.

I think I have five of the Ryobi chargers now. One is 12VDC so it stays in my truck. Three of them are mounted inside a cabinet door in the shop where the Ryobi tools live. The last one is new (and smaller) and will probably live in the carry bag so I have a charger when I am away from the house.

Do you think the 20V Max is a worthwhile upgrade from some aging 18V DeWalt tools? I'm getting ready to purchase a new 1/2" impact, and I'm debating whether to buy a 20V as my first in line for upgrade, or keep it all in the 18V family.

calereeves - I never used DeWalt 18V tools so I'm not sure if it's worth switching. I did look at the 18V line when I started into the 20V line a year ago and apart from liking the feel of them better I simply decided to go with what I figured would be DeWalt's line of the future. DeWalt says it will continue to support its 18V line and I'm sure it will but I simply decided to go with its latest line.

They've been a bit slow in bringing out the 20V bare tools in my opinion but it's now better than it was. I'm surprised they haven't come out with a 20V radio/charger yet. Overall I really like the 20V tools and batteries.

Thought about mounting my dewalt 18v multi charger to the wall, it has two holes that go all the way through so I'm assuming that's what they are for. However, I wish the batteries locked into the charger...seems there's a chance of them falling out.

For some reason the DeWalt 20V chargers don't have holes for mounting them on a wall. Not sure why ... :headscrat

My Makita charger doesn't have mounting holes either. I just zip tied it to a cleat that I mounted on the wall. Bench top is clear now!

You can make your own keyhole in the backs of the chargers that don't have mounting holes using a couple sizes of drill bits and a file. Might be a good idea to remove the screws on the backside and pull the top cover off, to make sure nothing is in the way of the new mounting holes.

I recently built some simple cabinets above my workbench. The lower part of each of the three boxes remains open. This allows easy access to the chargers, and keeps them cool. It also gets the chargers off my workbench!

2manytoyz those look great. Can you come to Austin and help a brotha build some of those with a very cheap table saw? I need 6 of those for my garage! I looked at all of your pictures and I might try to duplicate these!

Thanks. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and pick up a drill kit and a bare tool 1/2" impact driver in the 20V. My sawzall is an old 14.4V, so it could certainly use updating as well...

I replaced two of the screws on my Makita charger with screw studs. Then a couple of picture hangers and you're done.

Got a thread on the cabinet build? I'm building some soon.

I put some pics in another thread: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2754030#post2754030

It's a modified version of the cabinets shown on the Kreg Tool website: http://www.kregtool.com/media.html

In the media section, look for Upper Wall Cabinet videos 1 and 2. The plans are available here: http://www.kregtool.com/prodImages/Wall_Cabinet2_CutList_Diagram2.pdf

The dimensions of each box for my cabinets: 12" deep, 48" tall, 20" wide. The open portion of the box is 12" tall.

These were easy to make with a tablesaw. I cut all the sides at the same time, and all the shelves, along with the top & bottom of the boxes at the same time (all same width).

My lesson learned is to drill all the holes for the adjustable shelves prior to drilling the Kreg Jig holes for mounting the face frame to the box. The shelf pin holes are important where they are drilled, not so with the Kreg Jig holes. I had some try to share the same location. But nobody will ever see that but me...

I stole Slowtwitch's idea (thanks btw, your royalty check is in the mail haha) and someone else's(can't remember right now) for an easy rack that houses my chargers as well as the tools themselves i use most. I also added a shelf for my smaller car and cycle chargers so I have everything all in one place at my bench. I actually JUST finished it this morning before I had to hit the road for work this week so I haven't taken any pictures yet.
