I ordered a some ideal 30-429 from amazon and I just got them today. They have a blue handle instead of the bright yellow rubber overmold handle like I see the rest have. What are the differences and should I return them??

They recently switched handle colors, the last pairs we ordered came blue instead of yellow. Most retailers probably haven't updated their photos.

Oh ok. Bc the ones I used before had yellow too. Not a fan of the blue and whateve it's made out of. I liked the rubber yellow better.

Most of us end up cutting the grips right off and putting Klein Tenite grips on out of the box.

I see. The difference in mune and yours is 1 number and COO. I wouldn't return them. They are still nice crimper. I even like my Taiwan made ones better than the snap on one's I also own. I bought these for my road box so it wouldn't hurt to bad when I do loose them. So the USA made ones are 30-429 and the Taiwan made are 30-4429.

remember Ideal acquired a number of tool manufactuerers, namely western forge, so they could be producing formerly contracted tools in house, here in the USA.

I saw a pair of blue handled Ideal 30-429's at my local electric supply three weeks ago. I spotted them and did a double take because I have a set of the yellow handled ones that I love. I was not impressed with the change.

The style was the same but the tool seemed slightly cruder overall and the handles didn't help that perception. I didn't study them extremely well because I was in a hurry on my lunch break so I can't say if the package stated if they were USA made or not.

I'm not too excited with this change. I may have to seek out a NOS pair of yellow 30-429's to put back. These are my favorite crimper of this type and I've tried many.

thats kinda why i wanted to send them back lol but i have them now so ill use them until i find a yellow handle pair. i saw them in some shore i was in a couple of week back. i just cant recall what place it was. had i known they changed i would have bought them.

Give em a shot and report back on how they do and feel. maybe they will in fact be an improvement. How's it feel to be the test mule?

I learned about ideal 30-429's in a thread I started about a quality problem I had with Channellock crimpers. It actually turned out to be a kick *** thread with lots of great info from many contributors.

well it didnt start well. when i got them in the mail it was in a UPS envelope not a box. so i opened it just enough to stick my hand in there and as soon as i grabbed the handle i knew there was something wrong lol the fit and finish to me just seems a bit off for such a tool some people relate to be the best in that type of tool.

i did try some test crimps (without wire). i always check all the ones i buy to make sure they make a solid crimp and i cant see no light thru the crimp i made and they seemed to work good. guess time will tell.

i dont think fit and finish improved thats forsure. think we both can see that lol

I don't get why people like the Ideal/Channellock style sta-kon pliers. Some of our guys like em so that's why I get the Ideals but I think the Klein style is a lot better. The Klein's look a bit nicer too.

not sure what you mean style wise? there the same other then handle covers and whether or not the non-insulated or insulated die is at the top or bottom

only reason i go with the ideal over the klein even tho i have alot of klein is bc i do alot of insulated stuff so it being at the top makes it easier for me.

The die shapes are a bit different, electricians are particular about our crimp tools. The Klein's make a better crimp on the terminals I use, double crimp nylon's. Our HVAC guys like the die shape on the Ideal's because they say it does the single crimp vinyl terminals better.
