Took racks out of a van interior. The guy told me to keep any tools so I got a bunch of wrenches and a few racks of Cractsman sockets. Nothing I didn’t have but duplicates are always good.

Anyway I found this and everyone I have asked has no clue.

Ok... What kind of work was associated with the van?

Is it yellow or that Bostitch orange-yellow?

Guy that owns the van just drives a truck but he bought it from his old boss who has an excavation/construction/contracting business. Current owner of the van had no idea what it was. Said he bought the van and a bunch of stuff was still inside.

Definitely seems yellow.

Bighead, can you roll it over and get us a few more shots? Does it open up in any way? Do some parts of it flip out or twist?

I’ll grab a couple more pics tomorrow. The top part pivots a little bit but I don’t know if it’s supposed to or if it’s because there are 2 screws missing from what I can tell.

More Q's. Those round black things. Knurled or smooth rollers? Do they touch in the middle? If they turn, do they only turn one way? And, if so, which way?

Looks like it could be some sort of glass holder/carrier to protect/carry panes of glass?

What is under the two screwed down covers in the first pic? When looking down the slot, looks like a pair of opposing wheels.

Looks like the center guts (jaws) Should flip up, but seems to be bolted down.

Do the half rounds behind the jaws serve any purpose, clearance for the wheels, etc

Some updated pics. I don’t know if it’s supposed to move like that or if it does because screws or pieces are missing. If I put the plain side on the bottoms the top piece goes side to side a little bit like shown.

As you can see on what I think is the bottom there’s a corner screw missing and the other end looks like it’s missing a center screw.

I believe the rollers go either direction but would have to check tomorrow.

The logic around either glass handling or seamless guttering made sense, because those are vehicle-based trades. Seems like the tool would be related to jobs that would have specialized tools kicking around the back of a van.

But I too am surprised the collective genius of TGJ hasn't figured this one out yet!

To me it looks like it could be a sliding door trolley of some type. That's about the best WAG I've got. The color hints at being some kind of heavy construction implement that is easily seen/located.
I would put it on FleaBay and see if anyone bites. Maybe someone needs one more to complete their set.:)

Any iron workers here? Could that be part of a sliding lanyard anchor of some type?

Asked a couple of older guys in the neighborhood after work today. One is an electrician and the other is a carpenter/ general handyman type guy who will fix anything. Neither had any idea at all.
