All of my 20 year old SO Torx sockets have Apex bits in them now. You have to do something stupid to break one of those and also I get them free at work from one of our suppliers.

I was looking at torx but ended up picking up a s/o HD torx set used off craigslist. But I did upgrade from my CM hex to those bondus. Got the metric set yesterday in the mail. Today the SAE set come.

The Bondus looks like high quality. Sometimes I wonder about the really long reach of bits. Certain situations I think they will help while other times they will hurt. Wonder why they went with longer bits.

This is a very worrisome development. Fortunately you can buy USA made Lisle for 20% of the price and they are happy to swap out broken ones.

One piece lisle torx bits are soft and twist/break under stress. The warranty replacements are no better. Two piece lisle bits are supposed to be better. But, maybe EVERY torx bit is better than the lisle one piece bits.

My SO dealer sold used torx bits and claimed they had a lifetime warranty still. He would warranty them for you no problem, don't know if the company approved of it but he did it.

As to the Lisle torx bits, I need to clarify. The one piece bits that are so cheap that they are only sold in sets, yes, those are garbage. Lisle now has a line of "super" two piece torx bits that don't cost much more and work great. I got a set for my portable kit and am very happy with them, so far they are holding up at least as well as my Mac and S-K bits in the garage.

This. There are 2 grades of Lisle. Unfortunately 99% of people have the cheap one piece'rs as they're sold at retailers everywhere.

I have not handled the better Lisles but reports are favorable. Honestly, I just gave my one piece Lisles away and purchased some Neikos from Amazon. Probably the same as HF.

Its a GM T-47 used for door strikers and seat belts.
It was an early use of torx plus. If you look at it close, you will see the splines are flat.
Many people just used a T-50, but it didnt fit well.

I

NO wonder I couldn't find the correct torx for my 1998 GMC Sierra!! Thanks
I will be ordering one right now!

FYI, 87-93 Mustang front brake calipers used a rather loose fitting T45 bolt that a T47 fits perfectly. You might say that was my first experience learning that you generally get what you pay for with tools. My parts store brand bit stripped right out but the Snap On T47 I bought just for that job got 'em out with barely any scuffing to show from it.

I learned my lesson with those Lisle bits on the same thermostat bolts I wrote about in my earlier post in this thread. The T40 snapped off all 6 "wings" when I used it. That's when I learned about the MAC bit. Also, I noticed that some of the (M7) bolts that held the cam cover on had 10 mm hex heads but were otherwise identical. I have them holding my thermostat cover in now.

Lisle should really get in the game and stop selling those. Because of those bits, I'm always leery about buying ANY Lisle tool. I'll always pick another brand.

Pretty sad that Neiko tools are considered better than an all American tool co like Lisle.

Anyone else swear by the Mac torx bits or know if they are rebrands?

I never lumped Lisle in with high quality tools. I'm sure that make some good stuff though :dunno:

Sorry for getting off track on the OP's subject...

I know this is an really old thread but when the "Tool truck" person tells you they can't warranty something, you need to double check with corporate. I've had Snap On truck tell me one thing and corporate tell me another.
