Google is scanning those images to make sure the meet their PC standard.

All joking aside....I stopped using google a couple of years ago. Along with their search engine.

Try a little experiment.....

Open up your task manager and expand it so you can see all processes running along with CPU usage, Network, etc.

Then start a single copy of Chrome and one of Edge

Open GJ on both of them

Look at the usage....

Want to really have fun, open up the search engine DuckDuckGo in Chrome...
Using Google search in Chrome and DuckDuckGo in Edge, type in the same search. Do something political....and watch the difference....

While you're at it....start searching for a product....then wait to see how long similar products start showing up as adds on the side.

Ironically, Edge is by far the least secure browser on the market today. It gets patched twice a year on average, has zero defense to things like malware or privacy violation techniques, and is easily hijacked by a kid in his parents basement. On top of all that, they buy data from Google as well as aggregate their own... They just don't use that data as aggressively...

Chrome has FANTASTIC security features in practice... but ONLY if you trust Google... which, admittedly, is a very tough sell.

Safari is pretty good... And I think Apple is one of the more trustworthy, but the bar is pretty low... I use Safari 90% of the time.

The two safest (mainstream) browsers are Firefox and Epic... They are patched constantly, not ran by anyone with outside interests, and have some great features. Of course, they kind of **** as every day browsers... but...

hi, I'm having issues with images not loading in my thread, seems to only be an issue in Google Chrome. I'm not sure what is causing this, but it only seemed to start being an issue over the last few months. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

link to thread: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=249255

OK... The images in that thread are hosted on build-threads.com which, in turn, is hosted on Dream Host. For some reason, Google is listing Dream Host as a spam source when images are hot linked and thus, not displaying them... Which is strange, because Dream Host is a well regarded hosting company.

If this is your site and you are hosting those images, you might notify Dream Host of this issue.

Just realized that might have come across as harsh and figured I'd tell a story that sort of shows where I am coming from. A couple of years ago, I had a user on a site post child ****. It looked as though he was trying to post a picture of something related to the thread, but accidentally posted this picture instead... and it was terrible. To this day, the worst thing I've ever seen.

So, I traced the user's IP address, did some other things, and found out who this person was and where he lived. I then called his local police department and explained what had happened and how I got the information that I had.

The excuse I got over and over again was, "You can't prove conclusively that the content came from the user you have identified. As such, there is nothing we can do other than keep an eye on the person."

The thing is though, I had conclusive digital proof and no matter how many times I tried to explain that, they simply didn't understand the technology. Both IP tracing and meta data analysis was completely lost to them.

I gave up... But then, that night I kept thinking about that poor kid and what she must be going though. I have kids of my own... So... I called the FBI. They pretty much ignored me the first few times and then, I got a hold of a woman in the DC branch that would hear me out. I was able to convince her that I wasn't crazy and she transferred me to the Cyber Crime division of the FBI.

Long story short, these guys did things that I didn't know was possible. And they did it within minutes of verifying what I was telling them. Three brothers in Seattle were arrested the following day. Turns out, they were also talking to a family member at the same time, already had a case, and the digital stuff was just sort of icing on the cake.

You can read more about it here:

But the one thing I learned about that whole experience while talking to the FBI was that most local police departments are woefully undertrained when it comes to cyber crime and understanding how the internet actually works behind the scenes.

Given that, it doesn't surprise me at all that some police departments are using Edge as a department browser. Hopefully, their IT department is sharp enough with the firewall to keep people from taking advantage of that.

I in no way took it as harsh.

Are local police departments undertrained in the IT area? No doubt....

On the digital signal point...there are tools to alter those. Other issues, jurisdiction. With the digital age, it's no longer of 'where' did the crime occur. Police now for us regarding ID theft...if the person lives in our area....we take the report.

As for our use of Edge vs Chrome....the security is done up front at the firewall. There are some sites you can't even access....like YouTube....You want to watch YouTube....use your phone. If you plug a USB device into a county computer...the ONLY thing you can transfer from it is pictures....and those get scanned. You can NOT transfer anything to the USB device.
All activity is tracked.

The computers in our cars? The Windows image is pushed down from the server....you can't load any programs....nothing...nada....when you shut it down....NOTHING is saved. The OS on it is basically read only.

As for child ****? I feel there is only one cure....but I shall keep that to myself.
