Any recommendations for a quality impact driver bit set? I'd prefer USA made, but I'm not sure such a thing exists. Quality is first priority, cost is second. I'm not interested in cheapo bits that won't last long, but I'd like to find something at a reasonable price.
I'd be interested in finding a set that has 2" long bits instead of 1" so I have the option of using them without a magnetic bit holder. What do you guys use and what would you recommend?
If you're using an 18v impact drill I'd definitely consider getting impact-rated 1/4" bits. An 18v impact drill has too much torque to drive a piddly 1/4" bit unless you have the torque-limiting feature that the torsion zone provides on the impact-rated bits.
There's a fine balance to having the right amount of rigidity and twist. If the balance isn't correct, where there's too much twist, it limits the amount of torque applied to the end of the bit, making the bit less effective in driving fasteners, and making the torsion zone wear out. Too rigid and you get a bit that's prone to cam-out (on a Phillips head bit) or shearing the head right off with all the torque transmission to the end of the bit.
If you're using a 12v impact drill, I won't be to worried about getting the impact-rated stuff, unless your primary use is going to be driving long Phillips head screws into wood, without drilling pilot holes.
