Impact socket set not made for power tools?

So I just noticed today that my 30pc Stanley 1/2in impact socket set says on the case that they are not to be used with power tools. Then it shows an impact wrench with a x over it. I have been using the sockets weekly for a few months now, and they don't show any wear. Why would the case say that you can't use impact sockets with a impact? Weird.

Are you sure that they are not just a black oxide finish on the sockets?

Doesn't stanley have black chrome tool sets? Maybe that is what you have, and that wouldn't be for impact use.

That is husky but stanley makes a set just like it. Black tools but not impact.

If it is an impact socket set, how can it not be for power tools? What other impact tool is there besides a hammer?

Sounds like lawyers doing the BS they do.

Guessing Stanley figured it was more economical to furnish a black oxide finish rather than hard chrome to save a few bucks.....

Just because they are black does not make them impact grade.
If the case states "Impact Sockets" then thats just silly.

HF sells 2 different "grades" of impact sockets. The better ones will say "chrome-moly" (yes, they contain chromium despite having a black oxide finish) and the lesser ones will say "chrome-vanadium".

Pass on the CrV ones !

That's just a black oxide finish. Impact sockets are made to "wear" and not shatter when used with an impact gun.

Impact sockets are made to transfer more torque to the fastener. They also wear on the anvil opening so the anvil on your impact doesn't wear out or break off.

I'm also gonna agree that sounds like "industrial" black oxide finish, but not "impact sockets". I have a few Snap On items like that, a 3/8"-1/4" adapter and my old bellhousing extension. It was kinda a moot point with the bellhousing extension, it's so thin it would hardly transfer any torque with an impact... everything had to be broke free by hand and then I could run it out with a gun.

+1 on Harorider's statement that if they were packaged as impact sockets, that's dumb as hell.

More than likely because it is a cheap lower end set they are telling you not to use it on an impact gun because they don't know how powerful of an impact gun you are going to use.

Yep . . . . attorneys . . . . stinking fleabags wanting "back door" to get lawsuit dismissed if something goes wrong.

May be a misprint on the factory label. Call stanley tools and ask them what's up. What kind of a rotten tool company would sell impact sockets, then tell you not to use them on impacts.....? Stanley used to make ok stuff.

I found the Stanley 58-9269-2 set on the Canadian Tire website. Seems this set is exclusive to Canadian Tire.

The socket box looks to be in a cardboard sleeve and in the upper right hand corner there's a picture of some one using an impact wrench on a lug nut. Can't say why the text disagrees with the picture but maybe it's a translation error.

Read the reviews for this set. First review mentions the same warning.

"There is a warning label conveniently located on the inside of the case saying Not rated for Power Tools. Would have been nice if it said it on the outside of the box. Also, it was missing the 19mm deep socket.
I'd advise opening the unit before purchasing it. Returned it today."

It isn't an impact set

Not sure why people are saying this, it say IMPACT right under the lid.
I think they're protecting themselves if you break one. Either that or they're really no good and they know it. So many frivolous lawsuits in these times.

I believe the original post did not have the pics. He added them after so many people posted similar statements.

And that sticker is useless for someone buying the product. Unless there is a similar warning outside somewhere.

As others have indicated, what good are impact sockets that you cannot use on power tools. Very limited usage. I'd return them for a refund. And I'd write an email to the manufacturer stating what I see to be an error of their ways.

chinese steel. Nothing but the best

Not really, they say made in USA on them. I also have a cheap set of princess auto impact sockets ( harbor freight equivalent), and the stanley ones are much more robust. They also have a nicer finish.

I really don't care if the case says not for impacts. They were cheap on clearance for 30$ so I don't care if they do break.

I suspect that the person that designed the packaging simply started from a non impact socket set and not knowing the difference simply left the "no impact wrench" warning. Probably a graphic artist that didn't know the difference.

Kinda goofy aint it ? I tested a manual impact one time and it wouldn't undo 300 ft lbs( 3/4" or 13/16 ? nut) no matter how hard I hit it.That's nothing compared to my gorilla *** on a 24" breaker bar. Looks like a Stanley scam item.
Damn shame.

Does anybody even use manual impact drivers on nuts on bolts?
I thought they were only for screws.

My guess is it's either a misprint of some sort, or a lawyer stunt.
