I bit the bullet on the price and bought a Streamlight Stinger about two years ago. It is the rechargeable model and it has been the best flashlight I have ever owned. Bright yet small enough to stick in my pocket and not be an inconvenience when working. I throw it in its' charger station before I go home and it is charged and ready for a full day of use. I am impressed that the beam can even reach our ceilings in the warehouse which are 30' high.

I recently bought one for home as well because I have been so impressed. You will only be disappointed with the price but once you get one and use it you will be impressed.

Mike.

I have two of those. No regrets whatsoever and the battery charge lasts a long time.

Another vote for the Fenix LD20. The different modes of brightness are nice when working on a vehicle and it carries well in a pocket. Works great with Sanyo eneloops.

Surefires in all the vehicles for emergancies.

Headlamps are dorky looking. And a good one is $70. But now I can't believe that I ever got by without one.

(And holding a flashlight in your mouth while you work is kind of dorky looking, too -- so it evens out.)

No doubt the headlight is brighter. But for $4 you can't go wrong with these LED safety glasses from Home Depot:

I have to agree that the headlamps are the way to go if you are using it while needing to use both hands.

Of the brands mentioned, I'll have to say that the Surefire is tops and the Fenix is right there with them.

I have been watching and testing LED lights for more than 10 years. LEDs are the future but most have junk switches and cheap electronics. Walmart is selling a lightweight rechargeable 66 Led flashlite for $30. The single LED flashlight is the best I have seen and the work light is satisfactory. We will see how well it holds up

I have a streamlight poly stinger with xenon bulb and is a pretty good flashlight,I've dropped it atleast 6' more then a few times and still works like new. It's actually to bright for working on most things.

My buddy has a streamlight l.e.d and is Way brighter then my poly and battery last twice as long, also has hi/low unlike mine.

I agree with the headlamps being very useful,I bought a rayovac l.e.d headlamp from menards about a month ago(the one with one l.e.d,looks like a computer chip) for like $12 on sale, and it's pretty much my go to flashlight when working on something. It has a hi/low and you can adjust lens up and down.I've dropped it a few times and no problems.

Streamlight Stinger. Ive got 2 older style that still had the bulbs, and a newer one that is LED. Im so glad I switched to the LED. The battery last forever and I dont have to worry about keeping a spare $10 bulb on hand.

For a head lamp Ive got several cheapies from HD and a nice ZebraLight

Looks like they have cleaned up their site a bit since I bought mine. They used to have 30 different lights listed. Most were jsut the same light with different options though (lamp color, battery size, beam). Go with a flood lamp. Spots are way too narrow and focused for doing any sort of work. At least the kind you do within an arms reach.
Use Lithium batteries in the Zebra light, it makes a difference

Surefire all the way. Beat the **** out of mine multiple times , call up send it in, get anew one. USA made and the lumens are measured at a distance, not at the led. They always seem to be brighter than comped to comparable lumens others advertise.

I carry a Quark Mini123 every day. It is about the size of a tube of chapstick and will give you a sunburn. I freaking love it...I literally always have a light source now. It is always in my pocket. CR123A batteries are cheap online and last ages. I think I am on my third in about 14 mo.

I work on machinery for a living and use/wear out flashlights constantly. I carried mag lights 2AA's for years but have always had issues with the twist on/off function and with them rolling around when laying flat. I was researching 2AA lights and came across the Rayovac Indestructible LED light. It is about the same length but larger in diameter than the mag light because of rubberized shock absorbers on both ends with flats to prevent rolling. Body is aluminum/titanium alloy. High and low light settings. I absolutely love it and am going to get a couple for home. Check out the reviews on line. $15.00 at Home Depot. It is not rechargeable but accepts rechargeable batteries

I am going to have to check out this Streamlight brand that is dominating this thread. I just converted over to Lithium-Ion Dewalt tools and their LED flashlight is great, MUCH better than any of the incandescent based bulb units I have used including their 18v snake light or the 7.2v Makita with flexible head running a PR18 light.

Streamlight makes good light but if I were to get one, it would not streamlight.

I purchased about 6 different led flashlights for Christmas gift recently and I would prefer the cheaper ones, ~10$. They're just as bright or brighter than my streamlight strion.

Then get about 4 Samsung "protected" 18650 liion cells for under $40 and an intelligent charger(4 bay) and you're set.
