"Inactive Thread" Warning?

Been a lot of old threads that suddenly appear in the new posts due to weird bumps. Not sure if a spammer bumped them or if someone just isn't paying attention, but answering a question that was asked 10 years ago seems unnecessary....

Is there any way to give a "warning" when you reply to a thread that has had no activity in a period of time?

Some forums disable replying to old topics but I'd much rather just a warning like you suggest.

Numerous times I look for manuals etc for old stuff and come across topics with no answer. It would be best to still be able to add that information when I find it so others can come across it.

It's not that big a problem.
At times, a new member will come on and dig up an ancient thread with something pertinent - some new widget we haven't seen before.
Just roll with it and don't let it bug you.
I find myself a victim of "zombie threads" all too often, but in the end, it's not that big a deal.
Would much prefer a new member dig up a decades-old thread to show us his newly-found right-hand-drive-Whitworth-thread smoke grinding machine than start a new thread. (y)

WHY is EVERYONE so intent on PICKING A FISTFIGHT all of the sudden???

Just curious, but this is the 3rd thread today I watched people pull out their peepees and start slugging bare fisticuffs over, well, nothing... Pure BS, yet people HAVE to show they;'re alpha male TOUGHEST STUD....

Sorry, but you guys maybe need to take a breath, calm the **** down, and remember we're all FAMILY, not TARGETS. You want to beat on someone? Go beat on that neighbor who you know you can hospitalize, which when he;s in ICU you can feel SO PROUD of yourself....

Goddam. I'm SICK of this ****.

take a deep breath.
there are sites that will pop up a little window and ask "Hey are you sure you want to reply to this thread that's been inactive now for 17 years?" - I get it most every time I venture offsite to papawswrench or bladeforums or one of the other "tool" related sites.
I just ignore it and go ahead and post anyway.

I really don't understand why this bothers some people.
Well... it can be a bit unnerving to discover you've just invested an hour of your time researching something for someone who asked a question seven years ago and hasn't been heard from since - I do it all the time.
I just think "Oh well.... at some point in the future, somebody is going to run a Google search and find this post and the answer to their question."
So it's not all total loss.

I'd much prefer the revival of old zombie threads to the proliferation of threads on the same subject, which makes it virtually impossible here to dig something up from the past unless you can recall from memory the exact phrase that was used (e.g., "nesting diamonds meets arrow fletching" - a term used to describe a handle pattern on a pair of pliers.)

Considering all of the other problems we face in the world today, and the struggles each of us make on a daily basis just to get through the day, this ranks in priority right down there with hair in shopping cart wheels and people who write checks at the grocery store.

I can't believe we're actually even discussing this. FFS already.
