Any updates?

Please excuse this run on question but....

Could you comment on if you noticed anything with the planning and building of the house and garage out of the ordinary about adding a 1600+ sqft "attached" garage of this size. Such as the mechanics and how much it affected the cost of the entire build. The architects comments about adding it to the design of the house. Just the magnitude of it compared to the rest of the house. Anything that you noticed along the way that stuck out in your mind about the build versus if you thought about building something detached or doing something else differently than what you did. I noticed 2x6 framing etc...

Thanks

Sorry no major updates, the main focus is still on the house right now. Will have to snap a few pictures of the plumbing and electrical when I get a chance.

As for the home, we pretty much built the home knowing the garage had to be big. So everything else had to blend the garage in. Main challenge was making the roof line not seem like the garage was like a “huge” garage that was attached to a house.

Since the house has a pretty large span on its own from front to back, the roof was able to peak just as high as the garage with the high ceilings.

We though about a detached garage, but it’s just so nice not having to walk outside. The cost for a detached or attached is very similar, as you need the same materials. If you look at the garage structure, it’s pretty much a standalone building and the house butts up to it.

A sub panel was added in the garage as the span from the main is a long distance. This also allowed to do more circuits and dedicated lines.

Here is a recent shot of the outside from the front of the home. The other thing we did was put the garage doors on the rear, so from the street you just see “house”. So far people that have come see the home don’t realize that it has such a large garage until they get into the home.

Just adding some recent pictures of the progress of the garage.

Sub panel

Utility closet, wired 240v for my compressor. Also where the main water comes in. Whole house being done in copper.
IMG_6344.jpg

Garage office has a duct and return for hvac. Will have its own Tstat to control dampers that are installed. Figured I don’t want it always sucking air especially if there are exhaust fumes.
IMG_6345.jpg

Have outlets installed in the ceiling for the lifts, both the center garage and shop side. Hopefully I measured them out right, will found out when the lifts get installed. Also a 240 outlet for a welder on the wall.

That is going to be amazing! (actually is already). Not to derail your thread but how is the XC40? Reliability, handling, power, interior usefulness?

Looking real good! What is the plan for the garage door and tracks? Highrise tracks that follow the slop of the ceiling for a nice clean look?

The center and the shop far side i was told it would be about 18" from the ceiling, but that is only toward the door side as the wall itself above the door would be the bulk of it.

For the other stall its going to be at 10ft where the tracks rest, going to have some things mounted to the ceiling there for storage, and didnt need the highrise there.

The 2 4-Post Dannmar lifts arrived, can’t wait to use them. Decided to buy them now as prices are going up.

Decided to paint out the garage before the garage doors arrive. Figure if I don’t do it now I will probably never get to it. Was told it took 30 gallons of paint!
