Long story shot: I'm out of room, and need to grow again. Background below, my current box thoughts at the bottom. Reference picture of my current setup attached at bottom. Any opinions appreciated.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Customer mentions wanting a timing belt done on a 3.2L gm v6. Whatever, I'll buy the kit, and still make money on that job. Issue being, I am out of room.
The family of boxes and storage is below. Realistically, the Montazuma car is as heavy as I can still maneuver, and stuffed pretty well. The Equipto is all of my non-lockable stuff. Sawzall, grinders, brake bleeder, consumables, extra parts and fabrication stuff, gloves, etc. It is as full as I can get it and still reasonably work out of it. Area in between holds my pry/cheater bars, wand sprayer, funnels, stools, and 1 of my buckets. and the hand tool box for "disposable" or modify-able tools, and my exhaust gasket collection. Old box on the triple is my BS box. Storage of drill/impact bits, smaller bulk consumables, hose/hydraulic fittings, chemicals obviously.
KRL1033 is overfilled. My last two reorganizations have been for space saving only; I am loosing efficiency to gain the space. Granted, I have too much stuff. I have maybe 1/4 of the center bottom drawer somewhat open, but my coolant pressure kit and every inner tie rod tool I have is in there, so maneuvering cases in and out would be tough.
The KRL single stack top is slightly overfilled, it's diagnostic/scope stuff. So power probe leads, all the scope leads (Soooo many), amp probes, all the back probes, etc. I would like to move wiring repair to this location as well. The modis and autel barely fit in the top, get tangled with the leads for my main meter and single channel scope, etc.
Bottom of the KRL single has maybe 1 thin drawer open (worthless), and 1/3 of the top drawer open. Top drawer has my dial indicator stuff, and rarely used air tools. Some of my less used thread repair stuff is in the box (space issue in the 1033), as well as electrical repair. I have all of my wheel bearing sockets, mity-vac and vacuum stuff (should be in diagnostic area), fuel pressure stuff, timing stuff, and the bottom holds my extra scope/scanner connectors and my reference materials.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I love my snap-on boxes, I have drawers full of bearing splitters and steel adapters, they slide great. I also got repair parts for my home box and the single KRL. Long term support is a big deal, I'm expecting to be fixing things of some nature until I cannot work anymore. I am willing to trade/swap stuff, and have a strong preference for red. No interest in the other 3 truck boxes, for various reasons.
So I talked to the nearby Snap-on rep. Want's me to get an 84" epic. I say that's less space than I currently have, inquire about lockers; and am quoted list price off the website. He also suggested I look into a "Mr. Big". I have a meeting planned, but do not expect much positive to come of it.
I have looked at Lista, but have not found a drawer layout I am happy with. I need deeper drawers. Their mesh drawer liners also look crappy. I have very serious doubts a HF box will hold the weight I'm looking for, especially as I want to reorganize all of my press/bearing tools in one central location if the drawers can handle it. I'm thinking a grouping of 3/4 drawers. Craigslist in a 120mi radius over the last 4-5 months has yielded little of interest.
I have cash, or I can finance; whichever offers better terms. Whatever I buy needs wheels, and I'd like to minimize the number of keys on my key rings if I can. I have a hard time swallowing two different color boxes, although my gut tells me ditching the single stack for another triple is in my future. I want to minimize the small drawers, the stuff I'm buying is getting to be bulkier, not many thin drawer occupying screwdriver sets in my future. I could dump my seldom used stuff out of the bottom of the single KRL, and maybe free up a single deep drawer? It's be a piled mess somewhere in the Equipto, but I'd get a drawer.
Looking for opinions/ideas as to a step forward. I remember when the triple was the last box I thought I'd ever need.
